GERD and Plavix

My Dad has had two heart attacks resulting in two stints. His doctor placed him on Plavix and advised him to never go off it. He also has GERD for which he used to take Nexium for until recently, when he found out it reduces the effect of Plavix. So he now takes Zantac but he complains about problems with heartburn again.

My question is does anyone know a stronger drug than Zantac to treat GERD that doesn't interact with Plavix?

I would ask for clotting time testing before getting off either Plavix or Nexium.

I have taken Nexium since it was invented, had a heart attack was put on Plavix and ASA 325. A few months later I needed another stent, continued ASA and Plavix and still had trouble with constant bruising until I was allowed to get off both and just take 81 mg ASA. I had been on Plavix for a little more than the one year that it has been considered necessary. So maybe a person should have a clotting time done before stopping either Plavix or Nexium.

It's odd that there is only one dose of Plavix for all, no matter if you are 100 or 350 lbs. Also, some people need 20 mg, some 40 mg and some 40 mg twice a day of Nexium. So maybe dose needs to be thought out. Maybe there needs to be another opinion of which med needs to be stopped.
