Hello Kit,
Thanks for answering. My boyfriend doesn't have concerns about
his mother's surgery. They knew ahead of time that she was going to get the bypass surgery. First they found out that she would need the pig value transplant. Then they found out that it would be good to get the bypass surgery and since the doctor told was going to do the pig value surgery then he might as well do the bypass surgery at the same time. I forgot the reason but there was some valid reason as to why it would be good for her to get the bypass surgery. She probably had some blockage of some sort. My boyfriend's mom is just in denial about
needing to take responsibility for her own health and that her really bad health is due to her lack of exercise and eating habits. She looks like a very fat upside down L. She sits in her lazyboy chair all day long, orders people around, and thinks that everything can be fixed with meds and surgery. I wouldn't mind it so much except that my boyfriend seems to feel that his mom's and dad's health is the norm. Yesterday, my boyfriend told me that doctors routinely prescribe medicine for cholesterol once people hit 50. He is 51 and is taking meds for both high cholesterol and high-blood pressure.
I don't know whether or not this is true. I have low-blood pressure and normal cholesterol, and I'm 49. Is it normal for people over 50 to take meds for high cholesterol?
I said, "What about
diet?" He replied that having to go on a special diet would be too restrictive. So I looked up diets for reducing cholesterol. I didn't feel they were too restrictive. What do you think? Are the diets too restrictive? And how well do they work at reducing cholesterol?
I was quite upset the other day. I went over to their house with my boyfriend and his daughter, who is a vegetarian. They kept commenting about
how the dish they made would have tasted much better with real bacon. They really want their granddaughter to taste meat. They think that if she knows what meat tastes like, then she will eat meat like they do. My response was that they shouldn't be eating bacon anyway. Both my boyfriend's mom and dad have had heart bypass surgery. His dad had double bypass surgery a few years ago.
Of course, my boyfriend's mom was upset when I told her that she shouldn't be eating real bacon anyway because of her heart condition. That's when she got upset and told me that there is nothing wrong with her heart, that her heart is fine. Now my boyfriend thinks his mom's heart is fine.
