Hi again, Jen!
I'm truly sorry to hear how young you are and the problems that you're having! Though with heart disease as you now know, has no age boundaries!
How is your Dad doing?? I was fortunate. I had a bypass in August and all seems to be going well. Did your Dad have to go through a 2nd bypass?~I do hope he is well?!
I answered (sort of ) on your other thread by putting up a site that I thought might give you some info. Have you seen that yet?
Mitral valve prolapse is when the heart's mitral valve doesn't work just right~the valve, itself, does not close properly. Usually it causes no problems, and needs no treatment. In other's it can cause enough problems to require surgery to repair it, though it depends on the severity of these problems. I have mitral valve regurgitation, but it's considered mild to moderate at the current time, so they are waiting for it to be absolutely necessary to do the surgery to fix it. As any surgery is a risk itself!
Some of the symptoms that you may have are, the chest pain you spoke of earlier, palpitations, SOB (shortness of breath) during exertion, perhaps a cough and fatigue.
Have they done any echocardiograms, MRI's or a CT scan of the chest??
Usually the only time any surgical repair is needed is when the regurgitation shows up and how severe that is...
You may be asked to take an antibiotic before any dental work or surgery to make sure you don't develop infections~I do that.
Most of the time this can be treated with medications, or surgery if needed, but only your Dr. can tell you that for sure! Make sure that #1 you trust your Dr., if not- get a 2nd opinion!, #2 Tell your Dr. all the things that you are telling me here, he/or she needs to be aware of all this!
If you would like to know more, please ask!
Hugs, Teri
