Hi
I'm new to this forum and more than happy to share my experience about
cardiovascular disease and hopefully give or gain some support for it.
Last October at 07.00 a.m in the morning, I felt a burning sensation in my chest just below the sternum. At that time, I put this down to mild indigestion or heartburn. Being a night shift worker back then, I went to bed and had a very restless sleep at that, upon waking, I got myself prepared and went to work, starting at 11.pm. adding that I usually walk to work which is 5 kilometers. That night I found it a bit harder than usual and had to sit down at one stage because I had broken out in a cold sweat and felt a bit light headed. I worked until 05.00 am. and then informed my supervisor that I was going to the emergency department at the nearest hospital because this pain was starting to irritate me.
I then walked another 5 kms. (Not a taxi in sight) to the emergency department. I was admitted within 5 minutes, after a few tests, it was confirmed that I had suffered a massive heart attack. Within 20 minutes I was on the operating table and had two stents inserted. I was out of hospital within 5 days. But had to take a month off work to recover. Although I went back to work, I could never regain the level of fitness and strength that I had prior and after a while started suffering cold sweats and occasional chest pains upon exertion, a month ago I quit and am feeling better than I have felt in years.
