Extremely fast heart beat to the point I found it difficult to breathe

I was told in August 2012 I had a leaky valve in my heart but there was nothing to worry about. about two months ago, I experienced extremely fast heart beat to the point I found it difficult to breathe. After an hour it settled and I went on. I have had a few short episodes since until today. I had what felt like muscle spasms in my chest that lasted about three hours. Could this be AFib or is it nothing to be concerned about. My entire family has a cardiology history.

Joe,

Get yourself to the ER or call you Dr. immediately and report that you are having chest pain/spasms and shortness of breath - those my friend are the warning signs of a heart attack.

Please don't worry if it turns out to be OK. It is always better to error on the side of safety.
