I had an ablation on 5.3.2014 -my second ablation.

The first ablation in October 2013 was for AF. It was a disaster. I was rushed into ICU after I woke up with a suspected damaged oesaophagus. I was told that I could pass away that night if urgent surgery did not occur. It turned out that over a 5 hour procedure I had not been anaethised deeply enough as I coughed several times causing an oesaophagal bleed by movement of the tubes.

I also had a false anuresym in my groin and I needed a thrombilin injection and subsequent follow ups. My groin was completely purple for weeks and double its normal size. I also had a cardioversion for flutter which wss effective for only 6 hours.

After the ablation number1 I continued with AF finally developing into Atrial Flutter which completely incapacitated me.

The second ablation was a different story. On day 2 post ablation I woke up feeling
absolutely elated. I had sinus rhythm and excellent blood pressure. It is now day 4 and I am still in sinus rhthym. Fingers crossed for the future.

My fingers and toes are crossed for you.  Glad to know you are clicking along in a Sinus rhythm..........that always looks so nice on a cardiac monitor as long as the patient is breathing.

I was told today by my Cardiologist that it is necessary to take Pantprotozal 2×a day for 4 weeks because there may be some damage to the oesaphagus caused by the burning in the ablation. Has anyone been told this?

Also, the echocardiogram showed some fluid in the heart caused by the burning. Has this been the experience of others?

The ablation was on 5 March 2014. I commenced walking on day 5 slowly. However, on days 6 and 7 I was back to normal walking. Has anyone a similar experience?

I had my cardiac (1st and only) ablation on September 4 2012. I was encourage to get up and walk early the morning following surgery. I never had any problem. I had been in atrial fibrillation for 1 month after going back into afib subsequent to a cardioversion. the second time I went into afib, it was harder on me than the first time.. I went back into afib once since the ablation. This was triggered by taking the 4 day dosage of prednisone for a bug bite that was swollen and itchy and would not go away. once the prednisone was out of my system I went back into regular rhythm and felt good. the scene before I went back into rhythm was not pretty. I passed out at the cardiologists office, and ended up in the hospital.. it was a mess.. turned out ok though and I won;t be taking prednisone again. :-) I fortunately had no ill affects after the ablation.

Many thanks Sandi for taking the time to write to me it is much appreciated. It just goes to show that everyone experiences things differently after an ablation. It is now day 9 since ablation 2 and I am in sinus rhythm and feeling pretty good.

just curious.. did the same doctor do both ablations? Sometimes that can make a big difference in whether the ablation is a "success" or not. I truly hope that you are good to go now and you will not have to go through this again.

I had to take a beta blocker and another med that I was taken off of as soon as possible after the ablation(6 months) there was adverse reports on it. (cannot remember the name of it). Also had to be on a blood thinner for almost a year after the ablation.

Yes, Sandi I had the one cardiologist who is recognised as a world expert. He is also a Professor.Ten days after the ablation I am in sinus rhythm. I feel now like I have been given a new lease of life and that I may live a long life as I have no adverse risk factors . In fact, I am now doing some household chores that for the last 6 months were off my agenda. The reason for my AF is unknown. I ran regularly for 37 years and looked after my health. What I found since getting a pacemaker (taken out because of infection 2 years after insertion and no replacement) is that you yourself must be proactive with the health professionals each step of the way to progress your treatment. I am on Pantprotozal for the oesaphagus, and warfarin. I only take metropolol and flecenide if I get symptoms of AF which I haven't so far but there is a 90 day period before they know whether the ablation is a success.

I had an ablation for A-fib back on July 10, 2013.. I have not had any A-Fib episodes, but I have PVCs constantly now, up to several thousand a day... doc says not to worry about them, but they are bothersom..

Day 22 post second ablation for AF and Atrial Flutter-I feel great no problems. I am feeling very normal that is all I could expect.
