Surgical Scars...Is There Any Help?

If you have any thoughts, ideas, or helpful hints that you've used to help minimize the scarring especially after open heart surgery, please post what you've used here! tongue We have members that have recently undergone bypasses and pericardiectomies that would surely appreciate any help!

I, personally have had a problem with scarring, though that seems to mostly be underneathe the skin where it's not seen by the naked eye...my scars from my bypass and other prior surgeries seem to have healed well on the outside on their own, with absolutely no help.  Though, I do take vitamins, especially Vit. C, so this may have helped?

I would imagine that Vitamin E (topical) helps as well. Isn't that what they always say for scars?

I don't know if you have ever heard of Neosporin® Scar Solution™, Teri, and all I can go by is their own commercials, but they claim to help the appearance of old scars and to prevent scarring with new surgeries. Not meaning to advertise here, but was wondering if anyone had ever used this. I tend to scar moderately easy. I tend to lay that on to being diabetic. I have not had bypass surgery, however. This is a very interesting question. Thanks for asking it.

Kathy I have heard of it and tried it and I have to look hard to see the scar. I have also hard of cocoa butter too. I guess to each's own and what yu feel comfortable with some ladies would  want to show the scar off like  a badge of honor that they survived for I know a few ladies like that.

Well  I also know some vets use neosporin the regular kind on dogs not cats and like it too.

i have had multiple surgeries and the best thing i've found is heavy

use of vitamin E cream.

I hope this helps anyone that has been looking for answers and if anyone knows anything more, please feel free to add it here - all the above I've heard of before, though...IMHO sometimes doing nothing like I did, produces the same results.

 

Make sure you always check with your Dr. first!!
