Since I tend to cook pretty healthy I use fresh gaarlic alot nad more and more news is coming ut with news about garlic about how good it is for our health in lowering cholesterol, blood pressure etc . I was wondering do you all use fresh garlic or just Galic powder ot minced garlic from produce section that is not as benifical as  fresh garlic cloves?

Fresh, raw garlic is definitely the way to go. I don't think the powders have any of the nutritional benefits (if they do, it has got to be minimal), and the minced garlic has got to have preservatives... though it definitely does make it easier to always have a supply of garlic available!

Even though, it is tough for me to think about garlic. I had so much a few weeks ago that I seriously suffered a major garlic hangover the next day... brutal.

I love fresh garlic tongue and in this house it's a staple - even my teenager uses it when she cooks!  That along with olive oil, makes any dish taste wonderful!! yeah

Yes, literally, a hangover! I didn't believe it myself, but boy, it felt EXACTLY the same as having too much red wine or champagne. I even researched it the next day (because I was so sick at work that I could barely concentrate) and others have experienced it too. Now I am always making sure the garlic is "minimal" when I order something out... Even though I love the taste!!!

how much Garlic did you eat to get a Garlic hangover? I have never heard of one tell us what did you eat along with it and  like I said how much for this is something new to me too . I think I will look into it.

I eat a TON of garlic. That might be a "slight" exaggeration, haha. But I like it in almost anything. I also had not heard of a garlic hangover, but you know anything in excess I guess could cause problems. Did you know that you can become intoxicated by too much water? They call it water intoxication or HYPONATREMIA. I had to look that up to spell it right!

Anyway, once again, I digress. I use mostly minced garlic from a jar. I tried using my own but I just let it dry up in my frig. LOL. But oh is the flavor more intense and just a little goes a long way. Garlic powder just doesn't taste the same to me, but it's good in a pinch. Have a huge jar of that, too. It's probably time to throw it out though. Kathy

I think I am just very sensitive to it. Same thing with such "flavorful" things as raw onions. The night that I ate so much garlic, it was at an Argentenian restaurant... basically grilled chicken with garlic and parsley. A lot of garlic. It was sooo good! But sadly, I won't be ordering it again.

I swear, type "garlic hangover" in google and you'll see some things come up...

lol Maya, you are right! You are not alone -- I just did the Google search and found others who say they've had that, too!

So the rest of us garlic lovers, best be careful! :)

Garlic Powder is good for yuor dogs. I have heard this  from many vets and I have  dogs too and I say dogs for if i said furkids that covers all animals with fur LOl.

 

But once a week i give my dogs white rice and use  garlic in the water enough to make the water a  color of the powder it gets into their system and fleas hate it but still use whatever type of  Flea drops on your dogs still but that is what garlic powder is good for.. :-) Teri,Maya I did the same thing in google and I never heard of a Garlic hangover till i hear d yuo say  it then goggled it very interesting.
