Had the endoscopy on Thursday

I don't know if I got any answers or not. The GI did find gastritis and espogositis and multiple polyps which she biopsied. She put me on a PPI and said that I do have reflux or GERDS but not bad enough to explain my  chest pain symptoms and is sending a report to my cardiologist. ???

I was fine on Thursday but woke up at 4am with pain in the lower part of my chest right in the center. It was (and IS) right where the esphogus goes into the stomach-where the sphinxter muscle is or at least that is my estimation of it. The pain would start there and go around the side toward the back if I laid on my right side or on my back. So I laid on my left side. :-)   I thought it would stop when I got up but it did not. So I called the GI to see if it was normal to be sore and in pain there. She sent me right to the ER for chest x-rays and told me to go see my cardiologist after that. ???? It felt like it was coming up from my stomach and not my heart but she insisted I GO! So I WENT! sad  

They did an EKG,took blood, did the x-ray and ultrasound of my pancreas, gallbladder and part of the liver. Everything OK. ER doctor said GERDS. ????? I called my cardiologist afterwards (THE ER docotr kept trying to get hold of him but couldn't???) and said I did not think it was my heart and did not think I needed to come see him. He did not htink I needed to come see him either. He has done all the tests and they check out OK except for the various palpitations and coronary artery spasms.

 

Anyway I still have the pain today and now my throat is sore from where I yelled at my daughter's soccer game this morning. sad   I'm a mess and I wonder if things will ever get better for me as far as the pain goes!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

 

I'm sad because it was my husband's family reunion at a really nice park about an hour away and we were all going But after the game that pain was so bad I decided to stay home because I wouldn't be any fun hurting and maybe not able to eat and everyone asking what's wrong. So I sent them on and stayed home. They have a train ride around  the park that the family goes on every year and a wonderful creek we always cookout by and there is an Easter Egg Hunt for all the kids at the end and maybe I should just stop thinking about it!!! sad My daughter and I colored eggs yesterday after she got home from school and filled little plastic eggs with candy. :-) That is still fun!

I am so sorry that your having pain and not feeling well.  It is frustrating I know when doctors seem to brush off your symptoms or complaints.  Please keep us updated on how your doing and get better soon...

:-)  hi hopes,, i have had exactly what you are describing, including the pain that generated around and into my back. i have gastitis, gerd and a hernia and i have been on a ppi for 8 months, it really helped.  also, here i go again. some of it is stress related. i know this will sound redundant but anxiety can make it worse.  how long on the ppi? i hurt exactly where you do right where the esopogus and stomach meet, it actually hurts to talk at times, i was surprised when you said you yelled at the game, i cringe at the thought of how that would hurt. fyi, they cannot explain my pain in that area either, just stay on the ppi, which one are you on?

Hopes, sorry to hear of your problems. When I have symptoms that are frustrating, I do an inventory of all the meds I take. I look for contraindications amongst them. Especially when I have gastro difficulties. So many meds alone and mixes of meds cause changes within us.

I think you take a CCB called Norvasc, don't you? A few years ago, CCBs were not considered "just great" by many cardiologist, probably due to some clinical studies that came out. Since that time, other studies have shown well for CCBs. Anyway it is a heavy duty med. as you already know. I think you said that you take a small dose for artery spasms. Maybe you could quiz your doctor and see if this med could be bothering you. You also know to never stop a medicine without your doc's approval. (had to say that :) ) I abruptly stopped a beta blocker once and probably paid the price. I didn't know not to do that.....

Hopes, Im sorry to hear that you are going through all this. I'm glad all the heart tests came back ok, thats good news. I hope you feel better real soon. My prayers are with you. Take Care!

Thanks everyone for the replies! :-)  

I am taking protonix and I just started after the endoscopy. I was on it a couple of years ago for about 8 months and went off when I started having some troubles on it. So now I'm back on it and we'll see how it goes.

I think I'm feeling better. I only have the esophogus/stomach pain in the morning now instead of throughout the whole day. So that is GOOD!!!!

Dreamgirl: NOW I know how stupid it was for me to be yelling (cheering would be a better word) at my daughter's game. We all always do it. (We don't yell at the girl or ref or anything-just cheer on) Honestly my throat wasn't sore before that though and I just didn't think about it. The pain was down lower. Would you believe it took me awhile on Saturday afternoon to figure out why my throat was so sore-and it just kept getting worse throughout the day. However Sunday morning my throat was better. :-)

The thing getting to me now is that my regular/normal chest pain is back.(Like I thought the endoscopy would magically make that go away!!! Oh well...I can always wish.) I guess it is the coronary artery spasms after all. sad I don't want to complain too much. The cardiologist will up my CCB. Then I'll probably really have trouble with my stomach... and edema... and bruising... and ???? I'm going to take Aldo's suggestion and see if maybe there could be another medicine to try. You never know until you ask.

 I see my cardiologist in May. The GI wants me to see him right now because I am still having chest pain but she just doesn't understand that I have this every day practically and I'm still here! Believe me if it got worse I'd go in right away but the pain I feel now is the normal pain that I have gotten use to (kinda).

Yes. I'm sorry I wasn't clear about that but I actually had it back in January before my cardiologist referred me to the GI. My cardiologist has certaintly covered all his bases I think. He is really a good doctor and I like him. It turned out great. I don't have any blockages which is really good for my coronary artery spasms. If you have blockages that is where it will usually spasm and increases your risk for MI and other things.
