Crazy Symptom

Hi - I have been having MS like symptoms for at least the last six months.  Several Neurologists suspect this, however the MRI keeps coming back normal.  I have had a new, very unusual, symptom three times in the last three days.  The first time I was in a heated, upsetting argument with my 22 year old son and suddenly it almost felt as if I were tasered (sp?) in the center of my chest - an area approx 8" in diameter.  Also, I am famous for not sneezing - closing my mouth and holding it in - I did this last night and it caused the same odd sensation.  It lasts only about a minute and is so hard to describe.  It is like a thousand needles were propelled in to this 8" area at once - it is kind of like a burning pain.

Just to let you know, I have, what has been mild mitral valve prolapse, high blood pressure (controlled with Avalide) and also Bicuspid Aortic Valve - with mild thickening (as of 8/05)

Do you know of a cardiac issue that can have such symptoms?

Hi Cathy,  I wanted to welcome you to Healing Well and the Cardiovascular forum.  I see that Hope has given you some you good feedback to your post.  I have a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis since 2001 and Sick Sinus Syndrome and Bradycardia which I have a pacemaker for.  As far as doctors know there isn't a link between MS and heart problems.  Unless the patient has multiple lesions on their spinal cord, that can directly interfere with how the heart functions.  Perhaps other members will have some insight into this also.  Take care..
