Hi,

I was reading some of the posts and hope you can help me, I was diagnosed with Lyme in early July due to heart block , racing heart and some more issues not cardiac related, I was given antibiotics got better but after a few weeks I was sick again, I am on antibiotics again but my concern is after I eat my heart starts racing again, severe fatigue and I am walking very slowly, I used to walk every night and it is very difficult, my doctor tell me its a result of my Lyme disease, my concern is is it Heart Disease, I had an EKG done but was normal,  any input would be greatly appreciated

Hi judy, Welcome to the heart forum.  It is difficult to say if there is any kind of heart disease going on.  First, I would ask if you have a family history of heart disease?  This would be a major factor in determination.  Second, an EKG isn’t always accurate but if your not having actual chest pain or pressure then your doctor may not want to take the next step with cardiac tests.  If I am not mistaken Lyme disease does have the side effects of severe fatigue.  As for the feeling of racing heart rhythm after you eat this could possibly be acid reflux which is often mistaken for heart problems.  You may want to start keeping a journal of when you have these feelings and detail them out so you can take them to your physician and they can get a clear picture of what maybe going on.

Thanks for getting back to me, there is some heart disease in the family but not at my age, Im 40, I was concerned if there is any residuals from the heart block, andy you are correct Lyme Disease does cause fatigue, but my fatigue is severe, and my walking and general motor planning has become so slow, I was wondering why my doctor doesnt do a stress EKG, I get a racing heart from very minor things as lifting a child I also am having short term memory issues that may or may not be related to lyme, thanks so much for the response as I am really confused and upset at the moment because I went to my PCF and he told me that I must have PTS from 6 months ago when I was taken to the emergency room for heart block!

I decided to monitor my sugar yesterday, after I posted this message, I decided to figure out whats wrong and my sugars were high, but I am still concerned about my heart, but will first take care of my diabetes problem, thanks so much for letting me get this all out of my system!

I have never been to this place before but it sure seems like I could feel better by talking to people on here. I suffer from palpitations/skipping heart beats. I am so sick of it and I have had them for probably 20 years and it seems like they get worse with time. Worse when I eat sugar or drink pop. Hurts in my back sometimes. Stress makes them come on. Anyone ever had that?? I am so sick of them I can't see straight. I don't travel anywhere because of them, I make excuses not to go places.

Hi salon, Have you ever seen a cardiologist about this? If not I would scheldule an appointment with one, just to be sure everything is ok. I understand about not being able to go anywhere very much, I have the same problem. I take nitros and ranexa for my angina. Stress and overdoing it causes mine to come on. But sweets and pop doesnt seem to have an effect. Which is good since I am addicted to pepsi lol! I wish you luck and please see a cardiologist if you havent already. Welcome to HW!

Salon, I had palpitations and racing heart issues and was diagnosed with AVNRT. My episodes could be triggered by caffeine (soda, chocolate, etc), alcohol or stress. I went on Toprol XL and had a catheter ablation. I cut out caffeine and alcohol and tried to keep my stress level down while I waited to have the ablation and that helped. Had the ablation Dec. 1st and have been symptom-free and feeling great ever since. I would definitely go see a cardiologist if I were you and try and find out exactly what you have and what can be done about it. It's an annoying thing to try and live with!

I had the same problem (racing heart and easily fatigued) after I went to ER a couple of time for chest pain. The chest pain was caused by GERD, I didn't find out until months later.
This racing heart problem lasted for couple of weeks, then went away. I had all these tests for my heart, but I still don't know what the problem was.
Now when I get a racing heart beat, I realise it is stress.

Palpitations are more tricky, you don't know if it is your heart or the stomach causing them. As you read from other peoples postings, Doctors really don't have much concern about them.
