Hi,
I'm a 40 yr old female with history of hbp. Last summer I started having chest and abdominal pain. A few trips to ER with EKG every time...results always normal. September 06 went to the ER with shortness of breath, chest , shoulder pain. EKG normal but diagnosed with gallstones and inflammed GB. Surgery to take out GB and I figured all would be well again.
In November during routine physical I had another EKG done. Results were "abnormal" My GP refered me to a cardiologist who did an exercise stress test and echo (January 07). The stress test was normal and I had to wait over two months to see her again for results of the echo!!(I live in one of the most critically underserviced cities in canada for healthcare).
I saw the cardiologist yesterday and she did another EKG which was also abnormal. She said my echo showed some thickening of the walls of my heart (she wasn't more specific and I now regret not asking more questions).
She told me my last 3 EKG's (anything after Sept 06) are abnormal when at rest BUT.......my EKG during exercise righted itself and looked totally normal????
She says sometimes females get a false reading on EKG's and ordered a nuclear stress test to check again.
Has anyone heard of anything like this??? Does it make any sense that 6 months ago I would get a perfectly normal result and now keep getting what I'm hoping are false results. Or am I setting myself up for a huge shock when I find out that the abnormal results are correct?
Thanks for listening.
