Twelve years ago at the age of 16, my daughter was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. Looking back, we now know that she had the condition since she was a toddler. The doctor said that she has cardiac fibrosis which cause the atrial fibrillation. The fibrosis was probably due to a virus she may have had in childhood. Since then, she has been on different meds including amiodorone, which worked for about 1 1/2 year, dozens of cardioversions, at least 4 ablations, the last one 10 months ago. None of the ablations worked. She is now scheduled to have another ablation in December which will be the last one. The next step would be the Maze which is an open heart procedure. I would like to know if somebody has atrial fibrillation due to cardiac fibriosis and if so, what steps did you take to take care of it.
