aortic aneurysm/dissection surgery

Has anybody else had this surgery? Mine was done on 8/28/07. It was a 12.5 hour surgery, so I am guessing that they have practically rebuilt my aorta, and I certainly feel like it. I was curious as to how common this might be. I was told that mine was unusual as this seems to be a condition that happens more to people in their 70's. I am 41. I feel like I am recovering slower than I would like. Just wondering how other people fared.

I had my aortic root replaced with a dacron graph in 2005...........at the age of 59. However I did not have a dissection. But I had an aunt who dissected....at age 61 in 1984. She survived the surgery. But then my cousin, age 51 died suddenly in 2000. Then in 2003 my sister died suddenly. Both had burst aortas (undiagnosed until autopsy). Because of genetics all in our family are being tested. Several have dilations at the root and I (and a younger cousin) both had aneurysms. I chose to do the surgery. I recovered pretty well. I go in for a two year CT scan check next month.
