How is Endocarditis Diagnosed?

A dear friend is in the hospital. She is very sick and has just been diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse on top of her many other ailments. It is possible that she has the MVP for some time, but it has just been diagnosed.

How is a mitral valve prolapse infection detected/diagnosed (I think this is called endocarditis?)?

Does anyone know if there is any connection between endocarditis and seizure or other neurological/brain problems.

Hello, this is Kitt.

The two most common tests to confirm this diagnosis are blood tests and echocardiogram. Blood tests or cultures are used to detect the presence of bacteria, identify the bacteria and determine which antibiotics they are sensitive to. People with mitral valve prolapse are more prone to endocarditis.
