Too make a long story short...... I was diagnosed with GERD in Dec., 07. Last summer, I started not feeling well - main symptom= nausea 24/7, also lots of burping, stomach gurlgling, no heatburn but some pressure at times beneath sternum. My first GI doc was convinced that my diverticulosis was somehow acting up and causing upper digestive peoblem. He sent me to a surgeon who said that it could be my gall bladder and that he would remove it "if I wanted" (ultrasound showed no stones, 2 very tiny polyps . HIDA scan = 32% ejection fraction) So, I sought another opinion from a reputable GI guy. He said I would be disappointed if I had my gall bladder out because he didn't think that 32% was low enough to cause my trouble. He suspected GERD, did a 48 hour Bravo pH test which showed a large amt. or refluxing. He said not feeling any hearburn is not that uncommon. So, I started Nexium on Dec. 22. After a few days, I felt worse. So, they switched my to Zegerid. Now, 6 weeks later, I think I might be starting to feel somewhat better, but far from 100%. I would classify about 30% of my days as good, they rest fall between really bad and not so great. A scope showed a little gastritis which I can feel is now healed. My nausea is still my biggest complaint, also some burping, gurgling and bloating, at times. My question: Has anyone out there taken this long to respond to a ppi? Do I have any hope for ever feeling any better? My doc says that most people respond fairly quickly, but a few do take much longer. He wants to wait for 3 more months and see how I feel.
