Zegerid anyone?

Here is some information on Zegerid... Do not use liquids other than water to swallow ZEGERID. Do not open the capsules or mix the contents with food. ZEGERID is generally well tolerated by the people who take it. The most common side effects among patients taking omeprazole (the active drug in ZEGERID) in clinical studies were headache, diarrhea and abdominal pain. Take Zegerid on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before eating a meal. Hopefully your doctor has given you some more specific information on this drug. I tried Zegerid for 10 weeks - twice a day. It didn't help me, but now they are thinking that my problems are gall bladder related, so it's no surprise that it didn't do anything. I also tried Aciphex for 6 weeks and it didn't help either. (I didn't have any side effects from either one.)

I have been having trouble (sonstant nausea, burping, indigestion, loose stool, no appetite) since last summer. I had a HIDA scan on my gall bladder in the fall. It showed 32% ejection rate. (Ultrasound showed 2 polyps but no stones). My GI didn't think that was low enough to cause my symptoms so he did a 48 hour Bravo pH study which showed some reflux. He diagnosed me with GERD and put my on those PPI's that I mentioned. Even double doses each day didn't do any good. Since Christmas, I've started to develop some RUQ discomfort - pressure, burning that radiates to my back sometimes, occasional sharp, stabbing pains, but never any all out debilitating attacks. Now he thinks that it MIGHT be my gall bladder (which I've thought along). I went for another HIDA scan last week and am waiting on the results. If it comes back any lower at all, I'm going to get it out. Any one have any opinions on this?

There 2 tests that I had done were the ultrasound, which checks for stones, and other structural features (polyps, wall thickening) and the HIDA scan, which is a nuclear medicine test. It checks to see if your gall bladder is emptying properly. You get an injection which takes about an hour to get into your gall bladder. Then they give you another injection which stimulates your gall bladder to contract and empty. They take pictures of how much empties out and how fast. I think that if more than 35% empties in 30 minutes , you're normal. Below 35% is considered to be biliary dyskinesia and can be the cause for problems (pain, nausea, etc.) If you're not having any gall bladder like symptoms, I wouldn't get it checked. I think that gall bladder symptoms can vary pretty widely amongst people though, so if you're having upper digestive symptoms and pain, especially in the right upper quadrant, it's worth looking into.

Has anyone experienced IBS problems from taking Zegerid? I also have the chest pains and shortness of breath?
