No diagnosis yet

Hi all.  I am new and not sure what I am doing here so please help me out.  about 8 years ago I started having severe upper abdominal pain slightly to the right and under my ribs.  This pain radiated to the back and I finally had my gallbladder removed 2 years ago.  The pain resolved and I've felt great (until the last 6 months or so) other than the occasional flair up of IBS.  Now, I have this nawing, burning sensation in my tummy and my throat and even my tongue burns at times.  2 weeks ago I woke up about 2 hours after going to bed in severe pain.  I ended up in the ER thinking I was having a heart attack - after one night in the hospital and a heart cath, I was told my heart was perfect and I needed to see a GI doc.   My EGD was yesterday.  I do not have any bx results yet, but was told there was a lot of bile present.   I take Carafate and Nexium.  I take them at the same time and Doc said I was working against myself because the carafate was coating my stomach and not letting the Nexium do it's job.  He also told me not to eat Tic Tacs or other spearmint or peppermint candy as they make us produce more acid.  All this time, I thought I was doing what I was supposed to do just by taking my meds.  Obviously, I was wrong.    When my tummy starts to burn, I eat to "put out the fire" then the buring returns within 2 hours. It also does little to help my IBS.   I was told after my EDG that everything looked pretty normal but I had a lot of bile and we needed to wait on the bx results to plan further.  I was really hopeful that the culprit would be found.  I hate to sound disappointed that he found so little but I'm miserable.  Anyone else ever had the same problem with little results?  I'm tired of feeling bad.  Not the mention the extra pounds I've put on putting out fires!  I'm a mess.

Thanks for the welcome and kind words.   I do not have a history of heart problems but heart attack and stroke run in my family history.  I do have some other factors like overweight, stress, etc. that added to the concern.  I think the main reason they did the heart cath was that the heart monitor i wore showed some inverted t waves (what ever that is) and some flatlines over a 24 hour period while I was in the hospital.  All that said, my heart looked great (thank God) on the cath and the heart doc said to follow up with a good GI.  So, here I am.  Waiting on those results and hoping to hear something encouraging in the next few days. 

I had my gallbladder taken out 2 years ago.  I had gallbladder dz - no stones.  I dont' know if my gallbladder being gone has triggered my current problems or not.

I hope your results that you are waiting on help identify what is going on with you.  I know how scary it is to have these sx and not be able to get a definitive dx.

Thank you for inquiring about my sister.  She is in the hospital yet and every time she gets close to  discharge to the Hope Lodge another complication shows up.

She has been here since 8/13 so it is been worrying my mind constantly.
