Greetings:
I am new to the forum, but started reading it a few months ago when I developed gastritis/GERD. An occasional IBS sufferer, I had never experienced GERD and didn't even know what gastritis was until last February. Seems like one day I was just nauseous and it the beginning of a long drawn out stomach thing.
I think it developed slowly due to Advil, coffee, a glass of wine, nerves, etc. None of which was excessive, just over time, messed up my stomach.
Anyway, it was a daily misery for weeks/months. I took Prilosec, Mylanta, anti-spasmotic drugs, gave up anything that I thought would be an irritant. I had the bloodwork, ultrasound, and then an endoscopy.
I'm sure doing all of the above helped, but what I think finally turned it around was I started drinking a lot of those vitamin waters (or the Life Water is good, too). Sounds too simple, but it really helped. For a couple of weeks, I'd mix a little aloe vera juice (had heard that might help), but then just the plain vitamin water. (Glaceau, I think). I just noticed that every time I would drink them, I would feel better, so I'd drink one on my way to work and one in the evening, too.
I took some weeks, but little by little, I was better. Now, I feel completely back to normal. (After about six months of this misery). I still drink one bottle of the vitamin water a day, but I've also been able to add back a cup of coffee and a glass of wine and all of the food (i.e. tomato sauce) that I had given up. (I still take Prilosec each day, but I really think I could give that up.)
Hope that helps. :)
