I need for anyone who has had h pylori to listen up and give me some info.  I was diagnosed in July with it through my EGD, and took the Prev Pac.  Well, symptoms got a little better but now am suffering BAD with same symptoms but more gassy and "pressure."  Doc thinks we might need another round of antibiotics.  So this time, it Tetracylcline, Pepto tabs, Flagyl and an acid blocker.  Has anyone had to do this and if so PLEASE tell me what to expect.  Thank you so much Board Friends!

Mom,

I am sorry I have never had H-pylori.  I do know that treatment usually involves a combination of antibiotics, acid suppressors, and stomach protectors.

Your combo looks like a good one as Tetracycline and Flagyl are the antibiotics, Pepto would coat your stomac and one of the H2 blockers - cimetidine, ranitidine, famotidine, nizatidine- would be ordered for you.

Antibiotic regimens recommended for patients may differ across regions of the world because different areas have begun to show resistance to particular antibiotics.

cannot take Prevacid (the "lansoprazole" part of this drug) at all - AT ALL.
i've had H-Pylori before, but i would never take this 'new way of dealing with' H-Pylori. had it once myself, and got rid of it with an anti-biotic doseage pac. i think the drug-makers are making money off this by leaps and bounds.

i will never take prevacid or Zantac or Prilosec or Nexium again.
never again, it messed me up this time pretty good, bloated up, felt like i was going to explode, haven't been the same in awhile, and it added to other problems, and may have helped cause these throat spasms too, though my neck bones are the main problem -we think. Vanderbilt doctors will be checking it hopefully soon, as soon as my PCP get it scheduled.

stomach got worse, pressure and everything, felt like i did more damage.
i don't understand why they've made this "Prev"-pac for H-Pylori, maybe they think it helps, but man, that just doesn't make any sense, really. i want to leave the God-given natural acids and fighter-guys in there to keep the troops up against the bad cells. i don't want to suppress them.
this world has gone drug-crazy and it's messing us up, when we just need to watch what we eat - be disciplined. sorry, i'm just angry at drug industries pushing meds on us that we don't need.
we need to try to live healthy. God help us to live healthy.

Welllll....okay...... confused    I  have to do something or Im going to whither away.  Ive lost 25 lbs and have developed terrible gastritis from the h pylori.  Please, anyone else out there taken this stuff??

Mom,

Please remember everyone is different and reacts different to the meds. We are not professionals.

If you think the advice given to you by your physician makes sense then you certainly can choose to take it. :-)

Your point was, this is your second round as the first treatment did not work for you.

I have seen posts where members have said the they did fine on the Prev Pac.

The meds are old meds and my husband has been on the same meds for his Crohn's. He has had 3 major surgeries, the last one 16 years ago and he is doing great so these meds helped him when he needed to use them.

Again we are here for support and we cannot replace your physician.

I agree, a weight loss of 25 pounds and extreme pain is an indication you need treatment ASAP.

I am sorry the meds did not work for you and you got worse from the meds.

I am happy for you that you did find a way to deal with your problems and that it is working for you.

Hey Kitt...thanks for responding.  I am just trying to see if anyone out there has done the Flagyl, tetracycline, pepto and prevascid.  I understand they are very strong meds and am just curious of others experience with them.  Yea, the 25 lbs gone is NICE but freaking me out a little now b/c I don't need to lose anymore.  shakehead    I have many friends who are very good nurses and they say it really sounds like I have a case of really bad gastritis.   I hurt in the upper part of my stomach and the pain is very strange to me b/c it goes all over my back and chest area. Ive read here that some ppl are having esophagus spasms of some sort.  I even wonder if that is what I could be having.  I do realize you all are not physicians but to me, it sure helps when others are here and share their experiences. :-)

Kitt, Hey, oh no, I knew what you meant by your post.  :-)    I just felt sorta hopeless when I read the one b/f yours.  I don't think you could run me off this board.  I have found so much comfort in knowing I'm not alone here with this problem.  Thanks for your post, but I did know what you meant.

Hey I had the H.pylori test done last week and was tested positive and kinda freaking me out !!!!! hahaaha well maybe a little but im interested about people who have it and is it curable ?

GiftofGod--nice screen name.  :-) I like that!!

I have the h pylori and its been a mess with me.  I had it a few years back and they say once you get it, you never really "get rid" of it.  That is stays dorment in our body. I had the blood test, then I kept having such bad pain in the ledt lower side of my tummy, that my internist did the EGD.  it was not bad at all.  He just gave me enough to put me under a bit, but I was not intibated or anything like that.  He biopsied a piece and it came back positive for h pylori.  First I did a round of amoxicillan (sorry, spelling stinks!)  Clorithymican, and Aciphex.  the prevascid ran my b/p up!  I felt better afterwards but was still not well.  So then we went to the flagyl, tetracylcine, pepto and nexium.  The nexium seems to really help me a lot.  Now, I'm still having a wierd feeling in my chest, not really a "pain" but more of a "twinge: like a spark or soemthing....it makes my nerves go crazy thinking it could be my heart, ya know.  When all this 1st started, he did all the heart workup--stress test, echo, and all.  It was good he said, but I still worry so bad b/c heart disease runs in my family on both sides...my dad died at 39 with a massive heart attack, had quadruple bypass at 36.  I am 38.  So its very scary. I hope you get to feeling better soon.
