turn  Hi, I am new to this site and it is really nice to find a site that talks about these type of problems.  I was diagnosed the end of August with Pancreatitis with a blocked common bile duct and cycsts on my pancreas.  I had a ERCP to remove the stones in the duct and cut open my common duct to keep it open.  I am now left with terrible either heart burn from reflux of the pancreas bile or esphogas spasms.   The GI dr.said it can't be regular reflux from the stomach because I am on Nexium 2x a day.  Anybody out there have this type of problem.  My chest constantly feels heavy and like I am refluxing.  They also put me on carafate.  I have a really hard time with food and have lost 12lbs in a very short time not  bad thing just worried I will keep losing a get too thin.  Help!

Hye, would you mind sharing with me about the CARAFATE?  I have a script for and have not started it yet.  I'm on Nexium 40mgs twice a day also.  Have you had any side effects with the Carafate and is it helping?  I'm having little "twinges" in my esophagus and "chest" that only last a second or two.  Weird feeling...is this coming from GERD, you think?

Hi, I only started carafate 2 days ago and so far nothing.  We seem to be on the same medicine.  carafate is like malox but they say it works differently.  So no side effects yet it is difficult to take it because it is a liquid and you must take it on an empty stomach and wait 1 hr until you can eat same goes for the nexium. I take the nexium in the am wait 1 hr and then take the carafate and then eat later on. I am new to the nexium.....I use to take protonix never had this type of feeling in my chest before.  I am wondering if this is a side affect of the nexium???

Are your chest pains like I am describing?  Someone told me it could be from the esophagus, too.  IDK.  I'm about to go bonkers with mine.  I used to take Prevascid but it ran my bp up and made me feel awful.  I took Aciphex and it did not help at all.  So, they started the Nexium as of 2 weeks ago.  The chest "twinges" I am having though, I had b/f I started the Nexium.  So, I'm just wondering what the heck it is!  My cardiac tests all came back good.  So, I am just soooo worried.  I go to a Gastrointerologist today, so I will keep you posted.

Hi,  my chest pains are like lots of pressure and heartburn shooting from my breast bone and up my check almost to my neck.  I just saw my GP today and said that it sounds like bile relux and gave me regalan to get things moving and not let the food sit for too long.  He also said not all medicines work for all people you have to keep trying new things.  So I am now taking that plus my nexium 2x daily.  Let's see if that works.  Let me know how you are doing and if seems like yours.

I went to the Gastro doc yesterday.  We are going to do the stool culture to see if the H-Pylori is still active.  He's checking my liver panels and pancreas.  He said there could be some type of blockage OR something just not working properly but HE would get to the bottom of it.  So, more tests. 

My chest "pain" is more like a little shock thingy that drives me crazy.  He said that is probably the GERD.  Bu I do have the fullness and gassy feeling in my chest too and I hate that.  I will keep you updated and you do the same.

HEY let me know  this is just driving me crazy I can't stand it any more.  I just wish I knew what is wrong with me.  I have been reading about this nissen procedure...What is it do you know?  Does it help reflux?  Keep in touch.  Thanks

I had the Nissen Procedure 370 days ago and it was the best decision I ever made. Yes, it can get rid of reflux; however, for some people it does not totally work. I also had an ERCP with biliary sphincterotomy like you had - they made a large slice in the duct to keep it open. I had this procedure last February.

For me, I was diagnosed with GERD and after all the proper tests, the determination was made that the best option for me was the Nissen. After the Nissen, I had awful pain - it was absolutely excruciating. I went through all the gallbladder tests which showed the gallbladder was OK. Then they started looking into the duct and found that it was almost closed - not from stones, it's just that mine was naturally too narrow. This explained the pain I'd been experiencing for many years. You and I have similar symptoms, but in my case, the reflux was addressed before the bile duct problem.

Your MD may tell you that you can't have reflux on Nexium twice a day, but I say bullfeathers to that - I've experienced it so I know it can happen.

I'm going to "bump" a post entitled Nissen Fundoplication Part 5. If you want good information regarding what that procedure is, go get a cup of tea and settle in to do some interesting reading starting at Part 1.

Dear JBT, Happily Wrapped is so right!! I was on Protonix twice a day plus Tagamet and I still had reflux; you need a new Dr.!! When the valve is failing no amount of meds will control or stop the regurgitation. I'm almost 14 weeks post-op; was it a rough recovery, you bet!, but do I feel better?, wonderfully better!

I had my gallbladder removed at the same time; it showed evidence of chronic disease although I was mostly asymptomatic; I am having some problems related to the lack of a gallblader and an esophageal motility issue, but there are so many things that are better or cleared up completely since the Nissen....I am glad I went through with it (even though I question my sanity during recovery!!).

I just wanted to say that I really do feel for all of us. Having acid reflux is scary and painful.
I wish you all well and want to also add that one should consider carefully all the pro's and con's of any procedure. I know you all KNOW that but I really care about all of you and want the best for you.

Thank you all for your response...I knew I wasn't crazy with all of my heart burn....They keep telling me oh you just can't have reflux with all the meds. but I do....I finally got an appointment with a pancreas specialist and hopefully we will get to the bottom of this I will bring this up to him and see where it will take me.  I am just looking for some relief.  maybe this procedure will be my answer.  Once again this sight has been so helpful....Thanks again.  PS my GP put me on reglan and it isn't helping like it thought it would....I guess it isn't a motility problem...He said i would feel alot better in 4 days.  this is my 5 day and for the first 3 I thought I was feeling better but for the last two days ITS BACK!
