I’ve been reading posts about Lap Nissens and how awful y’all feel.

Am I strange or what? Because except for some pain from the gas (in the shoulder area); I don't feel bad. I'm getting by on liquid Tylenol which I took about ten hours ago. I have no appetite but I’ve been eating little bits: mainly cream soups, baby food, and buttermilk. I haven’t had a BM since the morning of the surgery (5 Nov) but otherwise I feel much better than I expected. I do think that my esophagus, and innards, etc. are starting to swell a little because my chest is a little tighter. Anyway, if I need it I have Lortab and Zofran. I was wondering if this is only the calm before the storm of serious problems because I don’t feel like I’m dying – I just would like a plate of nachos. I’m going for a walk tomorrow unless things change for the worse overnight.

I think it's great that you feel so well.  I had the Hill repair 2 1/2 months ago and I feel great.  Swelling does get worse after a few days so you may have more pain or swallowing problems coming up.  I hope you just continue to get better. 

I can't remember what all your issues were...do you think they are resolved?

:-)  Wow! I am glad you feel so well. I am 10 days post op and last night was my first time sleeping without pain meds. and sleeping on my side which was great. I am with you, my son made a pizza last night ( my favorite ) and my mouth was watering. If I was going to give any advice to anyone (which it does not look like you need), is walk, walk, walk. It was the advice of my doctor and I realy think it helped. Well, heal well, we will heal well together.

I went for a walk with my husband this morning; we didn't do the usual four miles but I feel pretty good. The gas pains are just dreadful but not much worse than the pains I got from GERD; so, it's doable. I did have to take a little Tylenol this AM but I even had coffee and feel pretty good. The goal tomorrow will be to walk two miles -- I need to get the gas out. Swallowing hasn't been too bad but I had difficulties with it prior to the surgery; so, there again it isn't any worse. If I didn't have the gas pain; I feel about 80% normal. I'll stay in touch. I still think that the swelling will get worse in a day or two and the incisions are starting to itch.

Mary Lynn, congratulations ans welcome to the other side!! If I may ask, how old are you? It seems that the younger you are the easier the recovery..(an obviously informal and unscientific survey!!)

It's wonderful that you're doing so well and I hope that it stays that way for you.

I am so glad you made it through and you are doing so well. I think your progress is fantastic.  Tomorrow your going to walk 4 miles.........whooooo hoooooo.  You must be younger then me but I think everyone here is.  Just call me Mom Kitt.

Okay, I wasn't going to attempt four miles (that what I used to do before the surgery) but I did manage two miles. I was pretty wiped out but I didn't expect to run a marathon.

If I could get rid of the gas bubble pains in my shoulders and upper chest I wouldn't feel half bad.

Oh, I have 59th birthday in about two weeks. So, I'm old too.
