Hi, was just diagnosed with a hiatus hernia.  I have very bad chest pain with reflux.  I am on Nexium 2x daily.  When they did the test they didn't see any acid but they did take biopsy.  Anyone out there with these symtoms?? What do you take for them??

I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia and acid reflux last year. I also developed asthma as a result. For me losing weight was the best course of treatment. It took pressure off my stomach and helped me to breath better. I take singulair for the asthma and prilosec for the acid reflux. I still have weight to lose but at least I am breathing easily. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi thanks for the reply.  I don't have to loose any weight and really watch what I eat.  I am on a very strict low fat diet and if I eat a little to much I am hit with horrible reflux and chest pain.  I wish there was another drug I could take to help me out.  Have you heard of any natural things that could help?  Thanks

hi..I have a hiatal hernia as well and it can cause intense pain.
I known that losing weight will help and I just bought myself an elliptical for Christmas !!
I take two protonix a day for my gerd.
I need to watch my diet more and I avoid bending over for long periods of time.

Has anybody been prescribed any medication that you can take for this HH.  Sometimes my chest feels like it is on fire and very heavy.

I've also just been diagnosed with Hiatal Hernia and GERD. the chest pain is dreadful. Doc says that my hernia wouldn't be causing the chest pain as it is small, but I have my doubts. I came across a website that calls the Hiatal Hernia the "great mimic" because it can mimic many disorders.

My chest pain feels like fullness, pressure and tightness that radiates around to the middle of my back. Doc is giving me 25 mg Elavil thinking it may relive the chest pain. Oh, and I take 40mg protonix 2x day

I also take 40 mg's of protonix a day.
Does it seem to be working for you ??? It does me most of the time.
MY doc told me that my hh is small also but I know what it feels like when it is inflamed !!!
I had someone on here tell me that my chest pain , when it is at it's most severe might be from a esopheogeal spasm ...??? I have not nhad time to check into this yet nor have I seen my GI doc yet this year ...but I plan to ask him about it ...it does make sense.

have you heard of these spasms anyone ???

I've only been on protonix for 2 1/2 weeks and I think it may be starting to help. Doc says it could take a while for it to really kick in. I have heard of esophogeal spasms, and as a matter of fact doc says that if my chest pain doesn't get better he will do a "motility test" to check for those spasms. I hate this wait and see attitude the medical establishment has for us. Can't we just get all the tests done one after another until we get a real clear diagnosis? As I've never had any health problems before (I'm 40), except for the flu and colds, this whole experience has been so friggin' frustrating.

Hi HHchestpain,

One of the things I had to deal with prior to being diagnosed with acid reflux was coschondritis. Coschondritis is inflammation of the cartlidge between the breast bone and ribcage. It is very painful, the pain radiates from the front to the back, usually on the left side, and sometimes if you press inbetween your breasts you can feel the pain. I was diagnosed after seeing a myriad of specialists. I had to have a cardiologist and pulmonary specialist rule out the heart and lungs before I could be diagnosed properly.  Mine was noticeable, I could see the swelling. This can occur when your reflux is not under control and acid/gases are irritating the lung tissue which is very sensitive. My breathing issues (Asthma) were diagnosed prior to my reflux. It is not life threatening and can be treated naturally with Glucosamine and warm compresses. It does take some time to go away but it did feel better to know that it was inflammation and nothing else. Just a thought. Hope your pain and discomfort goes away soon.

I have chest pain with my hiatal hernia and gerd. I take reglan for the symptoms.
