 I started a new post, I did see (1) with different medications that some of you are on, but it was getting long, so here goes.

 

I went to the Dr. yesterday as I had mentioned in my post on Monday,he gave me Nexium, but because the pain gets so painful, he is having me see a Heart Dr. and he gave me a form to bring with me, and he has checked off about10 thinks that he wants tests on.

When I went to pick up the med, today I was having a very serve attack it got so painful that I had to sit in a chair at the Drugstore, did this happen to any of you, where your DR. sent you to a Heat Dr.?

Also, I wanted to ask you if you have any links for food that I should be eating. Also today was the first time that I had (1) during the day, they are always at night I had made myself a toasted cheese and lettuc sandwich, with a pickle on the side, is it possible that what I had for lunch could brought the Heartburn on.

You are a nice group of people, as I am reading all the posts to see if I can learn anything.

Does Nexium cause you to gain weight, as (1) women posted that she gained 10 lbs while taking this medication.

One last question, why do you have to wean off them, is there a drug in it.

Cordelia again. Going to a heart doc, is not unusual. I just had a complete cardio workup; bloodwork, EKG, and a echocardiogram, just to make sure that I wasnt having heart problems. ( I wasnt and the pain is GERD related). Also the pickle could have definitley brought on the heartburn.  GERD can be very painful, many have gone to the ER because of it, including me. I cant comment on nexium I'm on another drug, called Zegerid, but I know others can. Hope this tidbit helps.

Thanks, as I am trying to learn as much as possible, I think I will Google the site for foods that can cause it.

There was a point in time when I was on 4 Nexium a day.  Thankfully, that's over.  I was off Nexium completely until three months ago, a point when I underwent surgery for prostate cancer and I needed Nexium once again; first two a day and now I'm down to one.  I was on Acifex prior to Nexium but it didn't work well for me, and that's why the specialist put me on the Nexium.  I didn't have heartburn as much as I had what was thought to be cardiac problems, for which I made a trip to the hospital emergency room.  After almost a year of visits to a wide-range of specialists testing me for various possible causes, GERD was diagnosed as the problem.  Diet does play a big part in GERD and for many people a grilled cheese sandwich is likely to trigger problems.  Your specialist ought to be able to give you some hints/help when it comes to foods and beverages to avoid.  I'm not good at the food adjustments, for which I've 'paid the price' from time-to-time.

Ruling out the hear is the first order of business for any ER or GP. Since the symptoms are similiar. Once you have the tests done you will have much peace of mind at that plays An important part. If that is ruled out you will want to have tests done to look at your digestive system as a whole and in some cases particularly the Gallbladder.
A pain that makes you sit down like that could gallbladder. I am not a doctor but many friends that have had gallbladder problems have described intense pain that made them sit down. In most cases it was triggered by something they ate that was a bit too fatty or greasy. Welcome to the forum the group here tells it like it is.

Thanks for the comments. The issue with me was GERD, which produced the heart-issue symptoms. I had already gone through two stress tests and an echocardiogram and my heart was pronounced well. Then the "incident" happened. I had repeat incidents like that, too, before GERD was identified as the problem. Like anxiety attacks, they were. There was a time when some specialists wanted me to take pyschological drugs (which I resisted), others thought I had TMJ, etc., etc. My primary care physician was patient and honest as he said he didn't have the answer to the problem but that in time the cause would be identified - and that I shouldn't worry that what was happening was life-threatening because each test came back excellent and I was in very good health. Until this period I'd though everyone with GERD experienced heartburn but I never did.

Thank you all, I went for my 11 2D Colour Doppler Echo this morning, and more tests next week, so hopefully I will find out what the problem is.

Eat a more alkaline diet....less acid foods....it will help you. Read my postings....do a search for DANIE on the SEARCH SITE at the top of the page. I explain all about alkaline foods and what one should be eating. It's a very healthy way to eat especially when one has GERD or other stomach disorders.
I healed myself from GERD in a very short period.
