PPI and H2 Blocker adjustment and increased acid in throat?

Hey there everyone

Ive been taking prevacid 2x daily for ther past 2 months - and for financial purposes for the past 2 days ive been substituting the pm prevacid with Zantac 150 -- i noticed today that i have a lot of acid in my throat today and i feel like my throat is tight... and it seems like i keep refluxing --

is this a natural thing to happen when you switch off the 2nd ppi and go to a H2 blocker?  does acid increase due to the change in acid suppressors?  thx so much

You're going from a stronger med to one not as strong so I think that's normal. How much Prevacid were u taking twice a day? Prevacid and Zantac work differently.

prevacid is 30mg and im taking zantac 150 at night -- im thinking of taking 2 zantac instead of 1 -- i hope that works ;)

Hi saddaz,

If you are taking zantac 150 OTC it is definitely much weaker. I currently take protonix 40mg and when needed 2 zantac 150 (prescription). You should check with your doctor if this might work for you.
