Bill, I am sorry you cannot get good answers right now...that really makes life frustrating !!
I had to persist until i got good answers from my docs.

I have not heard from Rick either. I kind of think he told his story from start to finish and may not be back here. But I dunno for sure, just my feelings on it.

Oakley, the friendships that are created here are based on mutual respect and shared events, until you go through this it's difficult to understand how you can connect with people like I do. It is unfortunate that you continue to stalk my posts and are somehow compelled to make the comments that you do toward me.

The forum is a wonderful place and has brought great peace and hope to so many people; the information that is shared is priceless and I will miss it and the people on it.

I am leaving the forum; I should not have to make excuses nor be concerned at expressing my feelings toward another who is reaching out.

Don't let an unconscious person drive you away from helping yourself and others through this great forum. Your posts and information have been invaluable to me, and I'm sure to others as well. You have been generous with your encouragement and caring, which have helped so many of us face a scary surgery and worrisome recovery.

Please reconsider. Why should one person's thoughtlessness (perhaps not meant as they sound) drive you away from the rest of us who appreciate and need you!

Don't you dare let this member run you off as you are a huge asset to this forum.  I have just posted above re the forum rules and I will enforce them if this ever happens again.

I am sorry you were again a target of this members  snide comments.  I have seen and asked this person to email me in the past to no avail.  So rest assured next time I will take drastic moves.

If there is any member that has an issue with my comments, my email is wide open.

My job is to keep the members safe emotionally and that is what I promise to do to the best of my ability.

LdyJane - Please don't leave the forum. I have considered you one of my forum friends and it would be a shame if you let someone get the best of you like that. When I saw the remark that was left I thought it was kind of rudely put but I thought maybe it was just the way I took it. I wasn't aware of the other postings they made with snide remarks made towards you.

I'm sorry for people like that. This is a wonderful place to come for help and information and you are a big part of that. You have done nothing but help me and give me encouraging support since I started posting. So please reconsider leaving the forum. I would be very sad and upset if you left shakehead

Oakley - I don't know you, so I don't want to judge but this forum and people like LdyJane are important to it's success in giving advice and lending a helping hand to people in need for strength, encouragement or just ideas on how to coup with their problems. Please think twice before you bash someone and give thought of how would you feel if the tables were turned.

As the others have said, Please don't leave you have been very helpful, supportive and would be dearly missed.

I did hear from the doctor this afternoon. He thinks it is very swollen and wants to wait a week and see what happens. Until then he wants me to stay on liquids and maybe try "mushy" things. He told me that he thinks a redo may cause more problems. I guess I may have to just get used to the way things are.

Stkitt...I accidentally started a new part 2 and was wondering if you couls get rid of it for me? Thanks.

Well I'm off to drink my supper:)

Bill - Well I suppose that is encouraging. With everything you have been through I'm sure there does have to be swelling in there and then after it's gone down you are going be feeling great and eating like normal. I'm so ready to hear that from you. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I just had a piece of lemon meringue pie. That is soft and mushy and yummy to, I'll cram a slice through my lap top for you... LOL

Hope you had a nice supper with no big problems. Oh and no more ranch soaked greasy pizza for a while.

I haven't had lemon meringue pie in ages....yum. I haven't tried the greasy pizza trick lately. Can't wait until I can eat it though.Supper was great, chocolate ensure and strawberry jello.

I've been off the forum for a while and I was reading old posts to catch up. I am sorry to see that LdyJane is gone, chased away actually; she is one of several who offered sound advice, a shoulder to lean on and compassion and caring. I hope that she will check in and see how much we need her to be here.

I think that it would be fair now for you to remove this post and move on. It is encouraging others to have bad feelings towards me and that is not fair. I was kidding with Janice and sent her two apologies and she chose to leave the forum. I may not have had the surgery but I do have Barretts and sever Gerd and have been a member here for two years. I think it is time you gave me a chance now. This is not high school and if people don;t want to rad my posts they can skip over them. I need advice and support too. I appreciate any help you can give me to stop this now...this post so we can move on.

WHoa...... hi everyone - Teala, Bill, Janice - hopefully Janice will pull a Rick and come back ! I'm back and you don't want to know where I've been either. After reading the posts from the last few weeks, I was sad to read that there are still some issues out there with nerve pain and swallowing.

That has not been my case at all- all's well ! How well ? Please don't flame me for this- I feel bad enough as it is : ). I spent the last ten days in Spain and here's the kicker- never brought even a Tumms with me. Well- I wanted to but I forgot to pack it. (WHat does that tell you other than I'm a bad 5 minute packer.)

Spanish food is wonderful and their wine extremely good and dinner is at- and I kid you not- 10:30 pm and lunch is at 3 pm and I did it all. Told you you didn't want to hear... This trip was planned last September before I had any idea I was in for a redo. After the redo- it was what I was working towards in the healing and energy departments. I felt that it would be a true test and was it ever. Travelled with The One Who Must Be Obeyed and my son. Outward bound- 18 hours, 4 countries- don't ask. The next day in Madrid- good to go. I'm 58 next month- lots of old farts my age can't do that even without a redo !

Anyway- return trip 20 hours- don't ask- and here I am the morning after with a 5 hr sleep. Good to go... So- yes I'm ok and recovered and don't give up !!!! Bill- I read the travails you've been through and my heart breaks- Oakley shut up (just kidding)- to hear it. My advice ? Get the best most experienced surgeon to do a redo. This absolutely crucial in my estimation... you need to do the research. Who is "the" one who specializes in this surgery, has done the most and has the fewest complications. That's what I did. Since I paid for it instead of an insurance company- I had that right. Still- no one wins if it's not done right. Sadly, IMHO, there are more doctors doing this surgery than there should be. I've read several comments from doctors themselves saying this... So hang in there Bill- get it done right and Bob's your uncle. It can work as it should for a long time. It's Ok for me so far and I'm thankfull, so thankful I did it. Actually- I had no choice in the matter- I could not go on as it was the last 3 months prior to surgery.
Teala- so good to see you're still here and getting better and the heartburn is gone ! I think and truly hope that the pain from the operation will pass. I beleive you're a month or so behind me... and that month whas where I truly got my energy back. Things will get better so don't forget that.
So thanks to both of you for mentioning me and asking about me - I'm not checking here as much as I used to in recovery or before that while hurting, but I'm still here and things are very good. I'm enjoying life like someone who just got out of jail- like a kid in a candy store.

Wow Rick... That sounded like a great trip. I am so glad things worked out so well for you. I actually got to eat normal food with only minor problems for 2 days. The swelling went down and I thought it was the miracle cure....for 2 days anyhow. Friday it started in again. First thing was bread, imagine that. I am supposed to get a follow up call tomorrow and I'll let him know it worked for 2 days and go from there. They said they could do it once more, who knows maybe they will break the dang thing and I can get it redone.
I am still keeping my fingers rossed that Janice will return.

Sorry to hear it only lasted 2 days. It would seem that it's too tight to let food through but I'm no doctor. They may be hoping that in time, it will get more open without surgery. Surely, they will solve this one way or the other soon so you can get on with living normally. Keep up the good fight- it will get better. The status quo is not acceptable and should be changeable. Still, it must be better than hurting with food in the stomach pre-Nissen.....

I am glad I originally had the surgery. I definitely needed it, the pain was horrible.
They are using the balloon dilator that is used for achalasia. It is a lot larger than the fixed ones. My doctor wants to exhaust all other options first he said. I just talked to him an hour or so ago and he wants to talk to the GI that did the dilation and is going to call back with their next move.

Well hello there Rick and welcome back. It's Good to hear from you Buddy. Went to Spain huh, dang I'm Jealous.. LOL

I'm so thrilled for you Rick to be enjoying your self and that you had such good luck with your redo. I'm very slowly on my way back but the nerve pain is something else. It just wants to take it's dear sweet time to heal, dog gone it.

I went in to the doc's again on the 17th and she wants to do an endoscopy to check things out in there and dilate me a bit due to food still sticking a bit more than it should and the swallowing problems. Then it will be smooth sailing after that. ( the lord willing and fingers crossed to)

Bill - I bet you were in heaven for those couple days weren't ya ? I'm happy that you have had a couple days that weren't filled with pain. So it seems that maybe a few days liquid, soft mushy things, followed by a couple days of normalness, should be your routine for now anyway. I'm praying so much that they will find help for you. I feel bad that I whine about the little things I have wrong in comparison to what you are dealing with good grief my problems are nothing.

By no means ae your problems "Little Things". The nerve pain you are dealing with can be excruciating, added on top of the other issues of a redo Nissen and WOW! Now you have an over flowing plate to deal with. I just whined to the Thorasic Doctor and he refilled my pain meds for the rib nerve pain. I am not quite ready to do the shots yet. Waiting to see what is gonna happen with the Nissen first. You are right, it was great to eat normal with no thought of "is this geting stuck? Oh crap, where's my water, gotta get a refill or it won't go down. Ah crap, it's going to come back up instead" I really hate that routine. I am just about to ask for them to undo the wrap and take my chances with the acid reflux again. Not a great idea I know, but seems to be the better of 2 evils right now. I will see what they say when they call today. And I will let everyone know what I find out. This place is such a therapeutic place. We can open up and talk to people who have dealt with or are dealing with this and can understand the pain it causes. This is another time for me to ask Janice to come back....PLEASE!

I have only been to Spain and Ireland once. On the way to the first Gulf War and on the way back from there. Didn't get to stay, but for a few hours each. Someday I promised my wife I would take her to Ireland and Spain at least. I am so happy you had a great time. You sure did deserve it.

Well, I get to do another EGD so they can see how much they tore the LES last time and then do another barium swallow study right afterwards. Now that sounds like a wonderful day.

WOW Bill, I can see how you would just be fed up with the same thing over and over again but I guess they have their reasons ? I don't understand why they keep doing this if it is failing to give you relief of any sort nor finding out why you have the problems that you do. Have you gotten any other doctor's opinion's ?  I'm sorry for you Bill to keep going through this but if it leads to an answer then yes it would a great day of testing and I hope that's how it will end up ; )

Believe it or not, this is my 6th doctor to see what they can figure out. Lets see....4 GI doctors and 2 surgeons...yep I counted right 6 of them. At least they aren't going to dilate it again this time. That last one hurt more than when I had the original surgery. The doctor told me he won't dilate it again because if it didn't work the first time it won't work now. I have been saying this all along. They are just wanting to see if it made any difference at all before they move on I guess.
You just can't help but shake your head and smile! :)

Good to hear from you too Teala. Other than nerve pain, are you eating and sleeping Ok? Hope so. Bill- it will soon end... all the testing must be starting to wear on you. I don't know how you keep the sunny disposition but if you've been to the Gulf war- this might explain it. You do have to go to Spain when this is all done... marvelous country. Been 3 times in 34 years- had a ball every time. We are warriors too- just in a different way. I do think- it was no less trying though and that we all wear our badge of honor for living through it !

Hi everyone,
I just got back from Chicago. Oh how I love barium.... Anyhow, They said everything looks normal inside when they did the endoscopy. The radiologist said the barium swallow test still showed the same problem. I could have to them that without going through it. But I guess now they have to believe me.
I have to wait for the docs to call and tell me what they plan on next.
