HI EVERYONE , WENT TO MY GASTRO DR TODAY AND HE DID NOT LIKE THE WAY I WAS FEELING...THINKS I MIGHT HAVE ULCERS FROM THE GERD...HE PUT ME ON CARFATE 100MG.3 TIMES A DAY..IM A NERVOUS WREAK... ITS A 8 WEEK SUPPLY THEN HE WANTS TOO SEE ME... HE SAYS IF THIS MEDICINE DOES NOT WORK WE WILL HAVE TO TALK SURGERY..NOW IM REALLY SCARED... HAS ANYONE BEEN ON THIS MEDICINE? I ALSO TOLD HIM about MY BREATHING ISSUE.. HE SAYS THIS NEW MEDICINE COULD HELP THAT AS WELL...PLEASE ANYONE THAT COULD GIVE ME A INPUT WOULD REALLY HELP...IM A NERVOUS WREAK...THANK YOU

Hey there,

Carafate Tablets and Suspension are used for the short-term treatment (up to 8 weeks) of an active duodenal ulcer; Carafate Tablets are also used for longer-term therapy at a reduced dosage after a duodenal ulcer has healed.

Carafate helps ulcers heal by forming a protective coating over them. This is an old drug and been around forever.  It can be a very good drug for what you are going through so I hope the medicine works for you.

i took it for awhile, but not for ulcers. my doctor said it would coat my my stomach, to help it somehow. but, i didn't get any side effects from it, so that was good. i don't take it anymore.

i don't remember. but, i guess it didn't, since i stopped it. but i do remember that i took it a few times, for a few weeks at a time.

Carafate is a great old drug. I have been on it--regularly at first, then just as needed. I have a very reactive stomach, and get gastris easily. When i was hospitalized for GERD and asthma a few years ago, they gave it to me. My stomach was burned to a crisp, and it was very helpful.

I've never had any side effects at all. I looked it up..there aren't any listed, which is very uncommon.

I take it the way they gave it to me at the hospital...I put the tablet in a little medicine cup, add a little water, stir it up, and down it by tossing it back. I like that because I think it coated my wrap (which, after Nissen surgery, and gone through some irritated times).

I use it whenever my stomach is challenged, and it is very helpful.

Thank you for all the great info... I looked it up and seems like there is no side affects..Now I have to figure out when to take it with all the other meds Im on...thank you again you been most helpful..

ITSJUSTME, I took carafate when I had gastritis and it was perfect. One of the most efficacious drugs I've taken, and there were 0 side effects (probably because practically all of the drug is excreted). You have to be on it for a few weeks though.

THANK YOU FOR INFORMING ME ON THE MEDICATION..IM ALWAYS SO SCARED TO START SOMETHING NEW BECAUSE OF SIDE AFFECTS..
