Hi Kitt,
My GERD is totally controlled by the Nissen wrap, and so far my gastritis has calmed down and is behaving, so I'm a happy GI camper! I have struggled throughout the last couple months with my asthma, though. I had to resolve a pre and post surgical lung infection.

I went back to school and was there only a week and a day when I came down with the flu. After a week of dealing with horrible asthma, my doctor finally put me on an antibiotic (With my gastritis that can be tricky. Barb told me that she can tolerate z-pac, so I suggested that to my doc.) that solved the problem, and I was better. Now I have a new antibiotic I can tolerate...it used to be only amoxicillin, and that's not good to have only one option.

I started on a new antihistamine, and thought it would solve my spring allergy problems...I started actually going outside. (Last year I stayed in with windows closed (no air conditioning) for April, May, and June.) I was hoping to enjoy the outdoors this year. No such luck. A little over a week ago, I started getting wicked allergy symptoms that got progressively worse. about Thursday of this week I started getting lung infection symptoms. My sinuses were horrible, too. My doctor put me on prednosone and another z-pac yesterday, and I'm actually quite a bit better already.

All that said, my asthma is still better than pre-Nissen. Last year nothing helped. My doctors basically gave up on me. They said that my chronic asthma could not totally be resolved. The constant reflux was washing my lungs in acid--creating an underlying inflammation. That's why they were constantly pushing me towards surgery. I'm glad they did, and I'm glad I found this forum to support and guide me through the process.

I'm looking forward to getting through the allergy season. I should be better for July and most of August. I actually don't do as badly in the fall, and I love winter!

 Like Denise,I am GERD Free tahnx to the surgery. I havent had GERD asthma either. I can wake up to my own dirty breathe,not gerd breath and I can finally sleep!!!

My quality of life has significantly improved.Now we must cheer on Bill!!

I had the exact same experience--reading horrible posts about the surgery. It is a scary thing to read. But for every person who blames their bad health on the surgery (there are some quack surgeons out there, too), there are many, many with good results. They just don't get on the internet to post their positive experiences.

This is the only forum where I could find realistic and positive information about the procedure. I'm so glad I found it. Here you can find people who are so happy with their results that they don't have any trouble going back for a redo if needed. That's so great to hear. It took me a long time to get to the point where I could listen to my doctors and take the leap to have the surgery. I'm so glad I did. I wish I had done it sooner. I would have avoided a lot of pain and agony!

Good luck with making your decision. I had my surgery on Feb. 27th, so if you go way back on the posts, you can see my pre and post op information and posts. I tried to document my recovery fairly regularly--especially in the beginning. I was so afraid of how horrible it would be, and it wasn't horrible at all. It wasn't even close to the difficulty I experienced after gastritis/GERD episodes. I'm now about 2 months post op and eating pretty much everything. It's great! I highly recommend the surgery. Just be sure you get the best surgeon possible.
