Anyone suffers dizziness whith GERD?

Hi everyone.

I want to ask you if anyone suffers dizziness with GERD. I have a lot of dizziness also , and Im afraid about that.

Welcome to HealingWell and I do not suffer dizziness that I can trace back to GERD, that does not mean it doesn't happen.

If your having a lot of dizziness, I would suggest you check in with your physician as there may be another reason for the dizziness.

Yes a while back before I even knew I had it, I had dizziness and nausea. Got better when I went on Prilosec but then later on it was mostly nausea with stomach aches while on that med.

I've had dizzyness with GERD, but it wasn't the GERD that caused the dizzyness. I'm pretty sure that in my case, both are a complication of tick borne diseases, in particular Lyme disease and possibly Bartonella. By the way there are no definitive tests for Lyme disease despite claims to the otherwise. If you do test postiive on a Western Blot then you have a 98% chance of having it, if you test negative, it offers no information on your condition.

I've heard of some connection between migraines and Gerd however.

Hi. I too have had these dizzy bouts associated with my GERD. I just went to the doctor yesterday because the bloating and dizziness became pretty bad. I feel like I haven't been myself since the dizziness and GERD came into my life about a month ago. Believe me I was really worried about the dizziness and began to fear the worst. But my doctor said the dizziness was something associated with GERD so my fears somewhat subsided. He put me on 40mg protoxin and I have been on it for 2 days so far. The gas has gone away a little but the dizziness is still rearing its ugly head. But I have noticed that when I eat an apple that I begin to feel alot better. Hopefully the dizziness will go down a little because I play sports on a weekly basis. I know how you feel but hopefully things will get better.

I have had trouble with shortness of breath and gerd.  Sometimes if I have trouble breathing, I will get dizzy.  Just had a fundo done to hopefully help with this.  I am 4 days post fundo and so far I am having the same symtoms.

I have gerd, shortness of breath and dizziness....usually the shortness of breath goes with the dizziness. I have been to 3 doctors and none have associated the gerd with the dizziness......they shortness of breath yes. They insist on treating my ears for the dizziness. Anyone else out there experiencing this?

HELLO I HAVE GERD AND A HERINA AND HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE.... I DO GET DIZZY AT TIMES AND AM ALWAYS SHORT WINDED.. DR SAYS ITS PART OF THE GERD...I CAN TAKE LOTS OF THINGS IN LIFE...BUT THE BREATHING..............I PANIC....SO I UNDERSTAND HOW YOUR FEELING... WISHING YOU THE BEST...

Thank you ITSJUSTME0000.....I was scoped earlier this week and the doctor took a biopsy from my stomach. The nurse said it is inflamed. I have to call the doctor on Monday to find out the results and treatment. I am already on Nexium 40 once a day. Anyone know how long it will take for these symptoms to stop....I am probably the only one in history who went on a 7 day cruise(IN APRIL) and lost weight. I have lost 18 lbs since February and I don't feel well enough to go to the gym.

OH I UNDERSTAND I LOST 13 POUNDS... MY SYMTOMS ARE STILL WITH ME BUT NOT AS BAD..IM STILL SHORT OF BREATH WHICH TO ME IS THE WORSE FEELING.... I TRY TO TAKE THINGS DAY BY DAY... TRY TO EAT RIGHT... Someone mentioned fundo....what is that???? How do you go about getting this treatment? Now they are saying the shortness of breath may be due to a goiter on my thyroid against my treachea, going for an ultrasound next week. They are still denying gerd can cause dizziness.

I am so glad you are following through with some testing. I hope this ultrasound gives you some answers.

Reflux surgery is Fundoplication Surgery (fundo). The upper portion of the stomach (the fundus) is wrapped (plicated) around the lower portion of the esophagus and anchored securely below the diaphragm.

There are several different procedures and many of our members have threads on the board which address the surgery.

Hope you get your answer soon.

I can't help but chime in here. about six months ago I entered a tremendously stressful new stage of work, and subsequently I started having all kinds of strange health problems, apparently now all related to GERD. I have panic attacks occasionally, and apparently it's not uncommon for GERD to go together with these.

In short, I had tons of test run, from ultra sounds to MRI's all coming back clear. As one Dr. explained it, the GERD can affect the throat, which affects the ears, which in turn can cause dizziness and lightheadedness. I've since noticed on a regular basis that the funky taste in my mouth and the tightness in my throat tends to correspond with my ears feeling somewhat tight and my head spinning.

So in short, yes I suffer dizziness with GERD and this is apparently not uncommon.

OK PEEPS IVE DONE ALOT OF RESEARCH I WILL TELL YOU GERD WILL CAUSE DIZZINESS I TOO SUFFER FROM GERD WHEN IT IS SEVERE IT WILL CAUSE ANXIETY YOU WILL EXPERIENCE A ADRENAL FLUSHING THAT CAUSES DIZZINESS/EARS BURNING/WEIRD HEAD PRESSURE/NECK STIFFNESS/LIGHT HEADEDNESS/UNEASY FEELING/ESOPHAGUS SPASMS/EVEN RAPID HEART BEAT THIS HAS BEEN THE WORST THING THAT HAS SCARED ME WITH GERD YOU WILL HAVE A MILD BURNING TO FLAT OUT CHEST PAIN YOU CAN HAVE PVCS(SKIPPED BEATS) CHEST FLUTTERS/ESOPHAGUS SPASMS USUALLY EVERYTIME AFTER YOU EAT. I KNOW EVERYONE IS SCARED BUT TRY THIS EXPERIMENT DO NOT EAT FOR 12 HOURS OR MORE ONLY DRINK WATER OR 2%MILK NO POP OR TEA WATCH AND SEE IF YOU DONT FEEL 100% BETTER NO PALPS NO PVCS NO ESOPHAGUS SPASMS THIS WILL TELL YOU IF ITS GERD RELATED RIGHT OFF THE BAT. Wow! I am so glad that other people have dizziness as well!! I thought that I was alone! Again everyone in this forum can rely on each other and that is great!! Wish me luck I go Tuesday 8/11 to talk to the General Surgeon for a scope and then I am hoping that they will send me again to the GI doctor so we can talk about all these issues that have been dormant for all these years!!! :) Prayers go out to all of yall and know that you arent alone! Seems like I get dizzy when I have a esophagus spasm and then my ears start hurting and I get pain in my should blades! :( I am so frustrated I have never had this kind of pain until a month again and now it has been nonstop! Not to mention the chest pains and anxiety, the doctors did and EKG it was normal, they have done blood work everything is in normal range too... But I can't seem not to worry about it , I have an appt in the morning to talk with my surgeon who is gonna scope me I guess I am just not getting the answers I need or I guess what I want to hear! I guess that is the anxiety that is kicking in..... I am just at wits end!

I expereince some vertigo but it is usually related to the medications I am on for other disorders or a drop in blood sugar as someone else also has noted.

yeah when gerd (i have advanced) causes these sudden heart palpitations i pass out... i scarf down a bunch of antacids to get rid of it quick and it usualyl goes away.... however my big kicker currently is the omeperozole causes my back and shoulder to burn and pain... and my gerd has caused my throat to be on fire... it sucks but there's hope take the meds and it takes time!!

I also have gerd and experiencing back pain (between shoulder blades) contantly....in addition to shortness of breath. I'm on Nexium. Anyone out there experiencing this?
