Hi all, I'm a 21 year old male.
At the beginning of this year, i noticed that i would feel hungry, go to eat a meal, and only be able to take a couple of spoonfuls before feeling bloated, yet still feeling hungry at the same time.
As a result, i went to the GP, and was told that i probably had gastritis. i did the h.pylori breath test, which came back negative, and was given a prescript
ion of Pariet, and was told to take one per day.
At first, the Pariet worked wonders, and i could eat freely once again without feeling full almost immediately. This was a relief, as I am extremely underweight. I am approximately 177cm, which i think is around 5"10? and at the start of the year, i weighed around 43-44kg. The pariet was working well for me, but after i finished the three repeats, i continued to feel slightly sick. as a result, i went back to the GP, and an appointment was made to have an endoscopy. turns out that my stomach's internals look fine, and there's nothing wrong in there, which is puzzling, as i continued to feel nauseous, excessively gassy, and couldn't eat much before feeling full even if i'm still hungry.
After that, i returned to the doctor that did my endoscopy to discuss the results. since there's nothing going on inside my stomach, the doctor suggested that stress may be the cause, which coincided with the fact that i had to start preparing for exams. the doctor suggested that i try to stay off the pariet where possible, and to see how i feel after my exams.
It has been a month since my exams have ended, and i feel horrible. i haven't felt worse. I am now actually vomiting, (although not extreme vomiting, very light), basically cannot eat anything (i've tried just rice on its own, even eating a pear makes me feel nauseous and i start dry-wretching after chains of burps sometimes, although the dry-wretching after burping happens all the time throughout the day). As a result, i have dropped all the way down to 41kg. This has happened all throughout the year. It feels like i take one step forward when i feel good stomach-wise, then the problems return in a week or two, and i take two steps back, and lose more weight as i have trouble eating. It should also be mentioned that my build in and of itself is one that doesn't put on weight easily. i have tried to put on weight before the gastritis problems arose, to little avail. It feels like i am just in a viscious cycle, where i make progress, only to end up weighing less than where i started, which makes me frustrated and stress, which MAY be contributing to the problems arising again and so on and so forth. I am trying not to get stressed about
the weight loss, but it's difficult not to when you are 177cm and only weigh 41kg at the moment.
As a result, do you think my problems are gastritis related? I was thinking that it may not even be gastritis at all, due to the fact that there's nothing wrong going on inside my stomach...
I read up on the internet that the best way to deal with acute/chronic gastritis is to fast for two/three days on just water only, then turn to fruits and fruit juices for two to three days after that, then slowly resume your normal diet. Whilst it may not be that big of a deal to other people, but following through with this fasting idea is very high risk to me, as it means i will just drop in weight even further, which as i said, i simply cannot afford to it. however if this is the best course of action in overcoming gastritis, i figure i may as well take the weight loss now, and get over the gastritis problems, then slowly try to gain weight back.
Also, i was thinking that it actually may not be gastritis? Due to the fact that at the start, eating one Andrew's TUMS tablet helped get rid of the nauseous feeling almost immediately. now for example, i ate one today and felt even more nauseous, and ended up vomiting up white foam (i think it's called bile), which tasted a bit like the TUMS (i know this is disgusting, but i'm just trying to give as much detail as possible).
Also i should mention that previous to the recent reoccurance of the gastritis type issues, I generally sleep late, at around 4-5am, and wake up at around 1-2pm, and only ate 2 meals a day approximately, and i would try to fit in a third meal at around midnight.
Any suggestions/information are greatly appreciated, I am really struggling with these stomach issues, and i just feel so exhausted from dealing with the whole one step forward, two steps back on a fortnightly-monthly basis, and is also causing my girlfriend a lot of distress. I am willing to change my sleeping habits etc, whatever i should do to improve my condition and be free of gastritis, and be able to eat properly again and hopefully gain some weight.
Sorry, I should also add that when i had my endoscopy done, i also had a biopsy which came back negative. I have also had two blood tests done, one by my GP, and one by my endoscopy doctor. both came back saying that everything is fine, except the endoscopy specialist told me that i needed to eat more greens, but other than that everything is normal.
