I have been searching the internet for "after gallbladder surgery stories" and of course all I have found are bad things. which makes sense because people that are healthy, don't visit these sites.

If there are any readers who have had their gallbladder removed and no longer have issues, would they please post

My mom had hers removed many years ago, and has no problems since, can eat just about anything she wants and she is 80 years old.

Hi Sleepless, me too; I've been up since 3:15 :(
I had my gallbladder out when they did the Nissen last year, unfortunately I am not one of the lucky ones..I'm still having problems with constant diarrhea. I live on Immodium right now, but I have an appt with my GI to talk about other options (thanks to Bill!!!)

Hello and guess what?  I had my gallbladder out in 1980 and I never had another problem related to gallbladder surgery or stones in ducts..........nada.

So I guess my surgery was a success.  Keep the faith.

I had my gall balsdder out in 1995 and have not , knock on wood, had any problems related to the surgery or stones either. My gall bladder was removed because I went to the ER in severe abdominal pain. They admitted me for pancreatititis and during the tests found my gall bladder was full of stones.. Good luck to you let us know what happens with you

DRGRC Hi, I recently had the Nissen, so I am on this site a lot.  I had my gallbladder out in 06 and have not had any trouble.  It was kind of a mess lots of stones and inflamation.  It was done laparoscopically.  I had started having symptoms and thought I had appendicitis so it was an emergency surgery.  I felt pretty normal in about 2 weeks and so far so good.  I am a 62 year old female and don't have any chronic health problems now. Don't take any medications except for occasional anti-anxiety stuff.  I have been taking lots of digestive stuff since the Nissen, but that will hopefully not last long.  Just otc stuff, no prescriptions.  Good luck if you are having surgery. I never noticed any issues after the surgery, but I eat pretty wisely which may be a key to functioning after surgery.

I didn't have a big problem with GERD, a little damage to my esophogaus, but I had a really big hiatal hernia.  I had a large opening in my diaphragm and more that one third of my stomach was moving up into my chest.  My esophogaus was described as "tortured" which just means twisted or turned.  Amazingly, I had few symptoms.  Just the occasional bad pain mid chest and a lot of choking ,but rarely anything like the heartburn so many on this site describe.  It looks like a lot of people have the surgery who don't have a big hernia, but have a lot of acid damage.  The procedure tightens up the area around the esophogaus and the wrap keeps the stomach from moving up and out of place and all this is supposed to keep stomach contents and acid from moving up out of the stomach and causing damage which can lead to really seious complications as can a hernia.  They are just different problems that are corrected by the Nissen.  I had a great deal of the synthetic mesh put in my diaphragm repair which is supposed to keep the whole thing more stable.  I will be 7 weeks out on Wed. and I am feeling pretty normal now, but able to eat a lot less and still get some bloating.  My energy level is returning which is what I was very worried about.  I am 62, but very active and usually always moving.  THis surgery really slowed me down.  It is a scary procedure too and lots of pain for a few days after.  For me anyway. MY condition was probably a congenital one because I started having symptoms in my 20's:couldn't blow up balloons and had to stop playing a musical instrument because I would get a pain in my chest.  I had 3 big babies too which is supposed to make the hernias worse.  As late as a year ago my doctor was telling me that not much can be done.  Yipes, then I found out about the possible negative complications and started talking to GI doctor.  Then another xray and all of a sudden it was an emergency.  I am glad I had it done.  I just hope the recovery continues and I have no complications. The doctor said it was a perfect surgery, so I hope so! I know, long answer for a short question.

Dang! that sounds rather tuff.......my first stay in the hospital I was told I had a small hiatal hernia, and was also told that it was small enough that it should not cause any problems.

My surgeon did a endoscopy and told me esophagus looked good, the sphincter at the end of the esophogus looked good had plenty of strength, he did see some redness at the end of the stomach near the other sphincter, took several biopsies and reported no h-pylorie.

My second stay in the hospital, I had the HIDA-scan done and the report said no flow from the gallbladder after 2 hours.....but the first surgeon who keeps thinking that there is nothing wrong with my gallbladder.....

I am seeing the first surgeon again in the morning, and am going to my best to talk him into doing the surgery. I keep hearing that you can live without the gallbladder, and the way I have been living since the first of July, aint really living......

I am a 40 year old female, and I just had hiatal hernia repair surgery and they removed my gallbladder in the same surgery.  I am doing very well except, I have trouble burping and it hurts to burp.  I read some of the other stories on here and realize this is normal, but that would be my only complaint from the surgery.  My surgery was done on the 19th of July.  I am still experiencing bloating and gas or air pains in my shoulders from the surgery.  It has been 6 days since my surgery.  Has anyone else had this problem or anyone have any advice for me.  Thanks.

Your problems are totally normal. I took gas-x strips for my gas and bloating. Also walking helps with the shoulder pain.
Make sure not to overeat or eat big bites. Chew-chew-chew!

Welcome to healing well GERD forum. I agree with Joy, what you are feeling is normal and walking will help with the pains. My first one I had the gas pains for about 8 days, but after the redo I only had problems for a few days.
Please take the time too start your own thread and introduce yourself.

Coolbeans.

Yes what you are experiencing is very normal. It just takes time for your upper GI tract to adjust. I am 4 weeks post-op & some days still get bloating & wicked gas pain. Walking does help to move the gas & try not to over fill your tummy.
