I can't imagine how you can reflux without a LES being loose or open. Dry mouth could be a trigger, but something else has to happen for the refluxate to get up into the esophagus. Saliva doesn't keep stomach contents down by itself.
Have you been evaluated with barium swallow? I don't know how endoscopy actually shows reflux happening, although it would definitely show esophageal damage. Was there a hernia or a loose sphincter detected?
Have you been evaluated to have the septum fixed? (I have that too, but can nose-breathe. I just use a lot of saline spray to keep it clear.)
Another cause of dry nose and mouth can be meds and supplements you take. They can also cause the LES to be loose. Food sensitivities are a big cause of reflux. Keep a food and med log the check for that!
Yeah, I was diagnosed with a Barium Swollow and the endoscopy showed irritation. The doctor didn't tell me anything about
a loose sphincter though, so I don't know about
that. Maybe I should follow up and ask that question specifically.
All he told me was there was no hiatial hernia, and no h pylori.
I had a couple operations to fix the deviated septum, but they didn't work. Hence the breathing problems i have currently. Could the breathing tube they shoved down my throat damage the LES? I noticed reflux sometime around the time I had the surgery's.
But all i knew is that I only reflux at night, and I have a really dry mouth on the nights when I reflux badly.
I certainly didn't rule out a loose LES. I think it's a combination of things, but a big thing is not having any saliva to keep the reflux down ;)
