24 hour probe vs impedance/24 hour

so my doc wants to do the 24 hour probe when he does the endo on wed. has anyone had this. what should i expect. also, any clue why someone would do the probe without the impedance test too. doesnt that measure non acid reflux as well? wouldnt that be better than just the 24 hour

I'm not sure what you mean by impedance test. I've never heard of it. Unless you are referring to the mometry test. I had this test done last.

I think the 24 hour probe is the one where they stick the wire down your esophagus. Am I correct? I didn't have this particular acid test. I had the BRAVO test. They inserted a small capsule inside my esophagus. I wore a special monitor for 48 hours and recorded my reflux symptoms. It later fell off and passed on. It was very comfortable for me because I did not have a wire running out of my nose. I think the 24 hour probe would drive me nuts.

Hi Joe,

the 24 hour probe works the same as the impedance test, a small tube goes through the nose.
the only difference is that the impedance test measures also non acid reflux,bile and air,also you need to push a button if you feel pain to see if it is related to the reflux.
not every hospital has the impedance test availabel,i did the impedance at the university hospital.

thank you. i am seeing a doc at the univ of ia, whos much better than the local people. i am scheduled for manometry, 24 hr and endo on wed. i am going to ask about adding the impedance. my doc is keeping me on aciphex during the 24 hr, unlike some who report they get off the pills. my doc seems to think that does not make sense he says he wants to see if the pills are working. i dont think they are but now i have a doc who cares i hope to get some answers, not just free ppis

sounds like you have a good doc,i did my first 24 hour probe while i was still taking my ppi`s and antacids,it showed lots of reflux and that the meds not worked properly for me.

they can not ad the impedance while your doing the 24 hour probe,ask for the impedance instead of the 24 hour probe.
it gives you much more information about what is going on.

so they cant do both the 24 hr and impedance all at once. does the impedance then show acid and non acid reflux or do i need both
