Anyone tried Kapidex?

Has anyone tried Kapidex?  Did you see any results?  My doctor prescribed it to me today.  He said it is fairly new and much stronger than the ppi's.  He said I was to take 1 60mg tablet a day until I can get in to see my gastro-endo doctor and get another endoscopy.

This is a brand new med and was just approved in Fabruary. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved KAPIDEX (dexlansoprazole) delayed release capsules for the once-daily, oral treatment of heartburn associated with symptomatic non-erosive Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), the healing of erosive esophagitis (EE) and the maintenance of healed EE.

Your's is the first question I have seen re this med.  :)

I hope someone else has info for you.

hey i just was prescribed this medicine too! Kapidex... How is it working for you so far?

Hi steven. I've been taking it for a little over 2 months now and it seems to be working great! I'm no longer waking up at night with chest pains or acid taste in the mouth. I've only had 2 incidents of reflux since taking it. I go back to see my endo this month to see how things are progressing. How it is doing for you? From what I understand, it is a reworked version of prevacid which worked for me for over 10 years.

It worked so well during the first 2 weeks that my doctor put me on it for 6 months.

I started it two weeks ago, and it made my heartburn a thousand times worse. I stopped taking it this week, went back to omeprazole, and my heartburn has gone back to "barely tolerable", which is much better than the "raging inferno of death" that it had been while on it.

I'm never touching this stuff again.

Hi, Glad to hear Kapidex 60 mg is working for a few. I was recently taken off Omeprazole, which did nothing, and put on Kapidex. I'm in a "holding" pattern as I approach my 4th esophagus surgery. Kapidex has calmed acids significantly with no side effects! Good luck to you. I think this med is worth trying if you haven't.

I am taking Kapdix also, been on it for a few weeks and not having any improvements but the doctors says it takes time so thats what I'm doing.

I am on Kapidex also... its so very expensive tho.. so i will continue taking it only until my samples run out....My daughter works at a clinic and was able to get some for me...seems to be helping.. but so did protonics for me..

I started taking Kapidex 30MG 3 days ago, so it's till too soon to tell if it's working or not.

In response to an earlier post, if kapidex works for you, look into taking now Over the counter prevacid, which is pretty much the same drug (kapidex being an enantiomer of it), for much cheaper than the ridiculous price you'll be paying for brand name kapidex

I don't know how to put this but I have been on kapidex for 2 months it works great.  My omeprazole was kinda working.  the part i was worried about saying is that I noticedtonight my testes are shrinking.  Please don't laugh, I am as scared as can be.  when i noticed it one was far more smaller than the other.  I am only 36.  I quickly looked up hypogonadism and in a couple of spots it mentioned some GERD medicines can cause hypogonadism.  I would hate to blame this on Kapidex, but i hope it is cause I am not taking it anymore.

  I had been on Nexium and it did the job for 8 years then my insurance stopped paying for it and I had to switch to generic omeprazole.  I really could tell it was less effective so now I am nearing the end of my "samples" of Kapidex.  It was going to be expensive anyway.  I just wish morning would get here sooner so I can go to a specialist.  oh how I hope it's the Kapidex.

thanks for the welcome.  I probably jumped the gun on blaming Kapidex.  I have been diagnosed with low testosterone and started a 1/2 cc shot once very two weeks at the same time I started using Kapidex.  One of the possible side effects of testosteron therapy is shrinking testicles.   So I hope I haven't given Kapidex a bad name cause my acid reflux has been fine, but my other problem isn't.

I tried 60mg 2xday of Kapidex (now named Dexilant) for 2.5 months with no problems. The end of the 3rd month my GERD was back with a vengeance! Yes, Dexilant has some of the Prevacid elements in it but it is not the same as the over the counter Prevacid. I also tried Prevacid, prescription, 30mg 2xday with the same disasterous results. I've tried everything and am now back on the medication that works for me, Nexium 40mg 2xday, but I'm paying $175 a month since my insurance company will only pay 1/2 the cost. I also found out that experimenting with the Dexilant and Prevacid lead to some erosion of my esophagus and now have to also take Carafate to help heal things back up again. Thank You insurance company!
