surgery in 3 days

Hi Everyone,  for the past week  I have been having  unbearable heartburn for the last week with my gb attacks   . Surgeon says that should be gone after surgery tuesday to remove my  gb.If not he will prescribe me something. I took prilosec otc this morning  and also zantac a little while go nothing is taking my heartburn away. Any suggestions .

Are you sure that the reflux is acid and not bile? I understand that bile reflux is common with gall bladder disease. If you're on acid suppressors and still have reflux irritating your esophagus and giving you a sour mouth, it's more likely to be bile. I'm dealing with that myself at the moment.

One thing that will give you some relief is Carafate suspension. I was just at the GI doc and he said that's what they prescribe to neutralize bile is Carafate. I was suffering for a long time--taking PPI's and Maalox, when I suddenly remembered I had some Carafate in my closet. It was like magic...the relief was immediate. My need to Maalox has gone down dramatically. Carafate coats your esophagus and stomach, and really helps a lot.

Carafate is an old drug that isn't absorbed into your body, so it really doesn't have any side effects. One it may have is constipation, but I've never had a problem with it. (I do drink a lot of water, though.)

Lily, I have been having severe stomach pain and naseau and vomiting with indigestion for almost 3 months now. I had a an ultrasound ,ct scan which were nor mal so i dont have stones. They did a hida scan which came back abnormal my gb quit working and my gb is inflammed. I am in severe pain so thats why I am having it out. right now im on a all liquid diet because cant eat solid foods without severe pain and vomiting. Thanks all for your advice and well wishes.
