I have been taking Prilosec for some time, the 20mg OTC kind. Then last week, I had an endoscopy, and was told I have grade 1 esophagitis. My Prilosec was bumped up to 40mg twice a day.
Since I started it, I have felt progressively worse. My stomach feels like someone has punched me....the pain is constant, and I can't concentrate on much else. It goes right through to my back. I called the doctor, they said to cut back to 40 mg just once a day. I don't want to take it at all.
I am wondering if other people out there have had this experience with Prilosec, or any other side effects.
I have also joint pain all over my body. I am one giant painful neuron.
Help.

Hi crazyasaloom,
So sorry you're experiencing so many problems. I hope you find an answer soon. I was on Prilosec 20mg, then 20mg twice a day, then 40mg twice a day. As my GERD became more severe, my dosage was increased. Actually I was later switched to Nexium, then Protonix.
I have not had any noticeable symptoms with any of those meds, so I can't help you there. Try not to worry too much. The Prilosec (or any other PPI) will help to clear up your esophagitis.
Hang in there...it takes some time to heal. I hope you're feeling better soon!

Hey Crazy. I get the same stomach pains and headaches if I increase my Prilosec too much. I found a combination of Prilosec in AM and Zantac in PM worked better without the side effects. Good Luck. MM

Prilosec wacks me out as well....especially the 40 mg dose twice a day, might give the prilosec in the am and zantec in the pm a try
