PPIs cause symptoms to worsen?

It seems as though when I'm taking PPIs my symptoms seem a little bit worse.  I've taken Prilosec, Prevacid, and Nexium.  Things were especially bad on Nexium as I had heartburn a couple times and even felt the reflux up to my throat.  Also was having a lot of aching in my chest even after just drinking water.  After I stopped Nexium things seemed a little better for a few days before starting to get bad again.  My doctor is thinking that just maybe it's bile reflux that I'm experiencing.  I did read one article, others said the opposite, that in people with bile reflux PPIs may actually cause symptoms to worsen.  Everything else I've read said that it's usually a combination of acid and bile and that PPIs are used to help.  My doctor prescibed Ursodiol to take 3 times per day, for bile reflux if that's what it is, but didn't tell me to continue taking Prevacid.  The last couple days haven't been too awfully bad but I'm experiencing some heartburn and back aches.  An upper endoscopy almost 2 weeks ago which apparently showed Barrett's esophagus.  I'm confused because my doctor didn't really discuss it much or seem concerned.  I guess there is a possibility that I misunderstood but I'm 95 percent sure that I didn't.  Seems as though if it really was bile reflux the endoscopy would've shown irritation in my stomach as well.  Anyway, has anyone else experienced a worsening of symptoms while on PPIs?  It seems as though my symptoms just intensify so I don't know if I could really be having side effects from the meds?  Guess I'm just a totally difficult person and nothing is going to work for me.

I had back aches while on nexium, but nothing else.

I'm having some back achiness and chest discomfort sometimes anyway.  When I was taking Nexium I was having lots of issues with my chest aching.  Even water caused problems and sometimes right after eating it would start.  I still have these episodes from time to time but not as bad as they were then.   I just stopped taking Prevacid 5 days ago but things haven't changed much for the better but the last couple days have been more bearable.

Hi needing answers,
i noticed heart palpitations on prilosec. Was told to start prevasid, and then kapidex, and i haven't started either until I talk with my GI doc tomorrow.

I would, however, call your doc, schedule a follow up or whatever, and make sure you understand what's up with your EGD results so you don't have to guess. I for sure write down questions so i don't forget, get all the handouts, written stuff I can from him and his nurses, and so on (and still, of course, look stuff up on the internet and freak myself out!)

My mom has barretts, and you don't want to guess about whether or not you have it. I also want to know exactly what treatment plan my doc has in mind, follow up tests, ideas, whatever. I am in a remote area so I likely will have to travel, but, as has been recommended elsewhere on this forum, I have my medical records myself and plan to keep getting them so I understand what is going on. My anxiety goes way way up in the absence of information!

And if a doc treats me like I'm an idiot, I get a new doc. There are enough good ones out there that I don't want to trudge along with one who patronizes me, or does not make me feel like I can manage my own health.

Yes,in my opinion PPI may worsen your symptoms,for example in my stomach lots of polyps were born because of too many PPI!!!!The doctor told me it depends by meds...

I was on PPI's for about 10 years and decided to get off them. I mixed 1 oz apple cider vinegar in 8oz of water with the orange favor fiber mixed in and it stopped the acid reflux. The fiber with acts as a laxative and helps your system stay clean. I was drinking this 3 times a day. I also raised the front of my bed up.
