Face tingling and Chin Tenderness - GERD?

Hello All,

I am a 21 year old Male and have been suffering from Acid Reflux and GERD for the past year and half. Although this had troubled me a lot in the first year or so, I have gradually managed to calm it down and now it is usually a minor irritant.

However for the past 3 weeks or so I have been burping a lot more and have been experiencing weird sensations in my throat and face, especially on the tip and just underneath my chin. It is very tender to touch and it is itchy, and there was even a rash the other day which has subsided somewhat. Throughout the day I also have a dull pain coming from my chin, which feels like it is from the bone. The burping doesn't feel normal either as it feels like I can store the burps in my throat, before burping 5 or 6 times in the space of a minute.

I feel a bit stuck at the minute as my doctor said it is probably GERD, but this rash and itchiness don't seem like traditional GERD to me. I have also suffered with sinus pain before and wonder if it was to do with this?

Has anybody else experienced something like this?

Are you on ppi's? I am on Prevacid and have been for 3 plus years,I have had many different side effects from this medicine,right now i'm going through a few side effects.

All I am taking at the moment is Gaviscon, I used to take omperozol but I came off of that a few months back now.

Not sure about the rash/ itching but I have had the same thing with my chin and under my jaw for about a month now have also always had the wierd thing with burping, for over a year. However, I've just had an ear infection and apparently this can cause pain in the face. Did your doctor say the pain in your chin was GERD? I wouldn't stress over it too much anyway, the rash might just be a coincidence, maybe see if it goes away if you take antihistimines in which case its just an allergy.

I too have GERD and am having an EGD on Friday to test for a hiatal hernia. I too have had that weird feeling in my jaw/chin area. Plus the tingling which is also in my arm. I have had my heart tested and an MRI for a stroke and everything looked fine. I have also been tested for lyme disease and other things. I am going to post more later but wanted to tell you I too had the pain and of couse my first thought is heart related. I also have a rash between my breast where which is very itchy. Went to the doctor and they do not know what it is.

Well the doctor just told me it is probably GERD and sent me on my way, but I'm still unsure. But yes the rash probably isn't much to do with it, it was just happening at the same time around the same area. Can I ask you victoria21 about your ear infection, as I always have really bad ringing ears, especially at night, sometimes they feel blocked. Did you have something similar or is it different?

And yes I have also had heart palps and things but now realise that it isn't anything to do with my heart. After reading around other places I have realised that other GERD sufferers have similar jaw complaints, it is just a new sensation to me and I'm not sure how to deal with it.

Ringing ears can be from the PPIs.

I took them for almost ten years and mine ring all the time, sometimes very loudly.

Also they could need cleaning. Get some ear wax remover and see if it can stop it.

That itching feeling may be allergies. I have basically the exact same thing and it's my allergies :)

I have those same wierd sensations in my face, udER my chin and in my throat. Sometimes it feels like I can't swallow right. I had an upper endoscopy and they did not find anything out of the ordinary. They even scoped my stomach. It's really irritating not knowing what's causing the tingling and sensations in my throat. Next stop ENT doctor end of this month.
