I am 39 years old,i have had anxiety attacks for 9 years but in the last 4 years i started getting bad heartburn.Constant burping ,chest pain,fatigue,and feel like i,m choking.There,s time that i feel like i,m going to choke on my own mucus and feel that i need to spit it out.It,s a very scary feeling and effecting my work and my life.I been taking nexium and xanix .Still the inner demon is is still on my back.I,m at the point were i even fear to eat dinner or lunch.Please for any advice my freind,s message me.....

Do you see a GI? What kind of testing have you had done? Barium swallow, mamometry, EGD, PH testing?

What is the strength of your PPI? I've gone up to two 40mg nexiums and a 300mg Zantec, before they stopped working for me. Sometimes, you need to change to a different med.

I had the surgery and I've had no more reflux.

I am currently on .5 mg Xanax and 40 mg Nexium. I was taking Lexapro and it was working but when the indigestion started the doctor discontinued it. He said I had a possible allergic reaction that was causing the indigestion but later realized that it wasn't the Lexapro causing it. I had an Upper GI and the only result was a haital hernia and my EGD was normal. The indigestion is so severe that I feel extremely nauseous and like I can't breathe for a bit. What is PH testing?

If you are asking about the Bravo pH testing here is a description for fyi only.



In a 45-minute procedure under twilight sedation, a miniature pH transmitter about the size of a capsule is attached to the wall of the esophagus by a special catheter which is immediately removed once the capsule is placed. Using radio frequency, the capsule transmits pH data to a small receiver that is worn on a belt by you. The receiver collects and stores data over a period of 24-48 hours, at which time the transmitter is naturally sloughed off into your digestive tract and passed out of the body. The data is then uploaded from the receiver to a computer equipped with software that translates the data to provide a comprehensive report for the physician.

i just recently got diagnosed with GERD and i have anxiety ALL THE TIME. im always afraid im gonna choke, im scared to eat, but i have to eat or else the acid gets worse, i always have some sort of chest pain going on which is why i have anxiety... the best thing i can tell you is to just know that your ok. I have to constantly repeat to myself, youfine, you have gerd, its acid, its not ur heart, your not gonna choke, your fine.. your uncomfortable but your ok. i know the feeling at it sucks! im sorry !

What kind of testing and medicine have you done?
The pains are probably from spasms or a HH.
There's a wonderful anxiety form here. They are great sounding boards there.

Hi all. I'm convinced that being stressed or anxious makes my GERD worse. It's a viscious cycle for me I get reflux and then I start getting anxious about getting it again and then start obsessing about every little thing I feel in my tummy.

I've had many of the same symptoms that you have.  I was on nexium for 7 months.  I finally went to the cleveland clinic.  Doc put me on donnatal.   I haven't had nexium in three days and feel pretty good.  occasional mionor symptoms but really feel better

Donnatal = Belladonna alkaloid combinations and phenobarbital are used to relieve cramping pains in conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome and spastic colon. They also are used with other medicines to treat ulcers. These medicines decrease the motion of the stomach and intestines and the secretion of stomach fluids, including acid.
It may take 4 to 5 days of regular use to determine the effectiveness of this drug. As long as the side effects are tolerable and there is no increase in the intensity of the side effects, to the best of my knowledge, this drug can be used long-term with physician supervision.
