Hi Moo'sMum - yes, I have been taking some digestive enzymes, as well as chlorphyll and an Omega 3 capsule, all prescribed by my naturopathic doctor/chiropractor. She determined those were needed based on the type of testing she does, which has been spot-on for other things, but she said that she hoped my valve (I guess the LES) wasn't too damaged that I might need surgery. I wasn't too happy to hear her say that... Anyway, I'm doing these for another few weeks and hopefully it will help heal it up!
I'm glad to hear the digestive enzymes are helping you! I have actually taken them before for GERD - a year or so ago - and I believe they did help. It was a different brand than I'm taking now. It's hard to say because I was doing a lot of things to try and get rid of it - the aloe, enzymes, DGL licorice, etc.
Another thing I stumbled onto a couple of days ago was the idea of proper food combining. I had known about it and applied this way of eating way back in the 80's when I read a book called Fit for Life, but had forgotten about it. Anyway, I thought I'd try it out, starting today, and I believe my digestive tract is liking it, so far. There are several principles involved, but the main things are not to eat proteins and starches at the same meal, and also to eat fruit by itself. I' ve also read how drinking a sufficient amount of water can help, so doing that also.
