Here's one for you. I have a new asthma/allergy doc who is certain that I'm having reflux (I'm consistently hoarse--in the past allergies have caused hoarseness, but this hoarseness has been ongoing for over a year. I can't get it cleared up because whenever it starts to get better, I have a reason, cold or allergy, to cough, cough, cough. Many assume, including my GI doc, that the hoarseness is caused by reflux, and maybe it is.)
Anyway, my asthma doc (at our first visit) gave me a list of things to do, including elevating my bed. I've had an elevated bed for longer than I can remember, and often use a small wedge (4") to elevate further.
My asthma doc is totally against the wedge, as he says it puts me in a bad position that creates even more opportunity for reflux. I do know that a stack of pillows can do that, and if I were to slip down, I could be put into a bad position. However, at times I prefer the wedge because it takes pressure off my wrap, and is more comfortable.
I'd love it if all you forum members would weigh in with an opinion one way or the other, as well as any medical information pro and con.
Thanks a lot! I'll look forward to hearing what you think.
