In most instances, the relationship to pantoprazole was unclear.

BODY AS A WHOLE: anaphylaxis (including anaphylactic shock), angioedema (Quincke's edema).

HEPATO-BILIARY SYSTEM: hepatocellular damage leading to jaundice and hepatic failure.

NERVOUS SYSTEM: confusion, hypokinesia, speech disorder, vertigo.

SKIN AND APPENDAGES: severe dermatologic reactions, including erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN, some fatal).

SPECIAL SENSES: anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, blurred vision, tinnitus.

UROGENITAL SYSTEM: interstitial nephritis.

Thank you but whats the safest product to take to help with my esophagitis?

One more thing if you could please help. How long will it take to get protonix out of your system I skipped one today after a week of use? And will it be safe to use a liquid antacid like mylanta?

I believe it stays in your system about a day. Mylanta should be okay to take now.

Mr. Burp, did Protonix work at all for you, even a little? I only took one pill and gave up because of the migraine I got with it. Zantac works as good as anything for me without the terrible side effects.

Sorry I tend to be wore down so I am not on much but it did seem that Protonix help alittle but I noticed I was getting anxiety loss of appetite, increased sinus issues . I already have a difficult time getting food down and have been on a liquid diet for over 2 months occasionally trying to get soft foods down Started getting pressure around my neck that seem to tighten and the feeling something was in my throat..

Not that this relates to what you're experiencing, but for the record, I have taken Protonix for about five years with absolutely no obvious side effects. I was switched to it because nothing else was working, and at the time, it was the gold standard for PPI's...I'm not sure if some new product has taken its place. Actually, I haven't had any side effects with any of the PPI's I took.

While I do know that some drugs cause side effects in some people and not in others, it also happens that sometimes unrelated symptoms are blamed on those drugs.

If we look up the side effects from any medication, and actually assume we might get any of them, I don't think we'd be taking anything. The lists are long and are very scary.

So...Protonix, while it might create a problem specific to you, can be taken quite nicely by others. I guess I'm writing just to offer a different perspective. I've been where you are...taking a new drug, and having concerns as to its safety.

I hope you find something that helps and doesn't bother you.

Mr.Burp,I know what your going through,I've been on Prevacid for over 3 years now and recently been having throat issuses,either the meds aren't working like they use too or it's side effects from the meds,i've had other side effect before but nothing like this,A friend of mine has been going to a person who's into the natural healing field and she said it has done wonders for her so I think I'm going to give that a try hopefully this week,if I can get an appointment with this person.

If you label your thread properly, I think there'll be more of a chance to get answers.

I know it's tough when meds don't work.  I was on 40mg Protonix AM and PM, plus 300mg Ranitidine at bedtime.

It worked fairly well, but I still had breakthrough heartburn. The biggest problem for me was that my lungs were affected by the reflux, so I ended up having the Nissen surgery.  After that my lungs improved tremendously.
