Has anyone been prescribed Metoclopramide also called Reglan?

I have been on Nexium on and off for years and am finding it is not working as well. My doctor prescribed metoclopramide and pantoprazole. I need to warn people about the metoclopramide and the seriousness of taking this medication for the life of me I don't know why it is still on the market after only one day of 4xday I was so sick with violent stomach and bowel cramps, swollen tongue, diarrhea, extreme dizziness, the list goes on and two days after stopping I am still not right. I feel like I have been poisoned. A search on the net proved I was not crazy the testimonials were 100,s stating how dangerous this (poison) is. It sounds like you were allergic to it.
I was on it for about 6 months, but all I experienced from it was twitching and I stopped it right then. I'm left with teeth grinding and lip chewing from it.

Hi   I was prescribed this and read all the side effects and searched on the internet and decided it wasnt for me.

I was on Reglan for several years...just once a day at bedtime. I didn't think it did anything for me, and I quit taking it on my own.

Several years later, I went on it again, and still didn't notice anything improving. I did get some twitching in my thumbs. From that time on, I've refused it whenever it was suggested. It is not a popular drug among the GI docs I've seen. My PCP prescribed it both times. My GI docs expressed negative feelings and said they don't like to prescribe it. I'm sure it's because of the neurological issues that can occur with it.

Still, as I said, I did use it for a long time without any ill effects.

Thanks Joy, Denise and Mitsie. Well it's day four and still the runs and sick. Perhaps an allergic reaction but from what I read there are way too many bad side effects with this drug. The other thing is when I picked up the prescription they were out of the tablets and gave me a compounded capsule instead. I will try to get in to see the doc tomorrow as I need to start healing I have used slippery elm, aloe gel, activated charcoal and health drinks but they are not getting rid of it.

Hello and welcome to HealingWell.  My hubby was on Reglan at one time and tolerated it well.  I hope your Dr. appointment goes well.

The dose and timing of Reglan makes a lot of difference. I was on it 4 times a day for 6 months and got facial twitches which took 2 months to go away. For some people they are permanent. They can be violent and permanent even with 1 dose, usually the IV stuff during surgery.

I think I could probably take an occasional Reglan to speed things up. I'd never go on it as a regular treatment again though.
