How long did it take for you to be drinking carbonated soda again?

I think I waited about 3 months, but then it was very moderately. After about 6 months I didn't have any problems at all.

I don't drink soda at all. It's wasted calories and will make gas in your gut no matter how long it's been since fundo. If you must have it, open it and let it sit overnight. It will have enough gas remaining to give your tongue a little tingle.

There are lots of useful juices, preferably the ones that aren't labeled "drinks," that you can adjust your taste to. Since we have lost part of our stomach, and maybe some of its digestive process, we need to pay attention to nutrition.

I still can't eat any gassy vegetables after a year either. It's tough to get enough vitamin K though. There's a significant amount in salad, not enough in daily vitamin. I bruise easily and have had problems with anemia.

During the first two months I had to let it get flat before drinking it. mad

Now I can guzzle it down, but be prepared for sonic booms. nono

I had a 270 degree wrap so it's not as tight as the 360 degree. :-)

I've had the partial wrap as well.  It's been a month and Sat I'm going to a wedding.  I'd like to have a rum and coke.  Just wondering if it would be okay.

Usually, pouring alcohol into a soda and adding some ice flattens it....

...but I was warned that drinking alcohol wasn't a great idea after Nissen since you can't throw up....

I guess I'll know next week... *L*

LOL Zhy. I'll let ya know what happens! I only plan to drink 2. Enough to get my butt on the dance floor!

So part of the Nissen surgery is you can't throw up any more?

It depends on how tight the wrap is. The full wrap won't let you throw up.

I'm 2 1/2 months out of surgery and I'm still having issues with carbonated drinks. I have a 270 wrap, and by far carbonation is the one thing that is giving me the most problems.

As for alcohol, I had my first alcoholic drink just over a month after surgery. I was only able to drink half of it and didn't have a full drink until almost 2 months afterward.

Be careful and drink in moderation!

well, the wedding was great!  I had a few rum and cokes and I had the best burps I've had since before surgery!  Unfortunately the next day I was back to no burping. lol

Glad you had fun at the wedding! Just before I had my surgery, I was talking to someone who was two years post op. I was lamenting that I would no longer be able to drink beer. She said that beer was no problem, even though there is carbonation. I guess it is a natural carbonation, and not as powerful as the pumped in CO2.

I was under the impression that after the fundo surgery, no soda would be tolerated. However, after spending more time around this forum I have found that many are able to drink soda. Good thing too, because after being around here, I've found that there are a rather high number of soda junkies in our midst! Fortunately, water is my first beverage of choice. I do enjoy beer, though, so I'm glad I can handle that just fine!
