It went well. My dr showed me pics of where the wrap is and it is still open almost an inch when it should be closed. He said I need to go to a different surgeon because my first two nissens were not done correctly. So a third is probably in my near future. He took a biopsy and I should get the results next week, not sure what it's for though. He gave me a new med called Dexilant. I've never heard of it. Has anyone else tried it? I have to wait 2-3 weeks for my insurance to approve it so it will be a while. I'm not sure if this reflux is causing all of my nausea but I'll see what he says about that next week. I really want to smack my surgeon right now. LOL The recoveries from the first two nissens wasn't bad but I really don't want to get it done a third time!

ETA: He also said I have a small hiatal hernia now. Why wasn't that seen before during the surgeries or my previous scopes?

They're looking for Barretts and such I bet. I had a biopsy as well when they did my last scope.

I hope you are able to find a good surgeon to wrap you correctly this time and fix your hh.

A good surgeon makes all the difference in the world.

Didn't Bill have to have it done three times?
Did the same doctor do both surgery?

Yes Joy the same surgeon did both. I'm going to get a referral to a better surgeon I hope! There are very few gastric surgeons in this area.

What state are you in? Maybe someone will have a recommendation for a good surgeon for a re-do. There are 3 here in Pittsburgh who have good reputations.

Im in Wisconsin. I don't have the funds to travel very far though. I'm going to make an appt with my GI to discuss his findings more in depth since I was kind of out of it. I'm going to do some research and see if I can find another surgeon but not sure if I can find out how many nissens they have done.

Go to the Columbia St. Mary's Mikwaukee website and look at their staff. They have a lot of gastric surgeons on staff.

Sorry to hear the bad news. It's definitely time to find a new surgeon. If you have a medical center within driving distance, that would be a good option. You could also broaden your search to a thoracic surgeon who specializes in esophageal surgery. I'm seeing one now to explore whether or not I need a redo (my asthma is kicking up). He has done over 1000 fundos and over 200 revisions. He also does many other very complex esophageal procedures, so he's very experienced.

I wonder of those centers have money (like a scholarship) to help people like you who can't afford the travel. It's a thought.

Hi Michelle,

Another place that has alot of surgeons is Froedtert Hospital. That is where I went to get a second opinion. They have specialists in every field. They also do the Davinci robotic assisted surgery. They say it's quicker healing time and it's very precise.

Also I have been put on Dexilant and for me anyway it is working just fine, it works so good I sometimes forget about the reflux. I was taking Protonix 40mg twice a day and didn't work half as good as this. I hope it works well for you.

Good luck finding a new surgeon.

how far are you from Chicago? I had my redo done at Loyola and highly recommend the surgeon who did mine. I didn't give the surgeon who did my original one wrong a second chance. I asked another surgeon I trusted to do it and he recommended I go see this surgeon at Loyola because he specializes in this. If it isn't to far email me and I can give you his name and number.

I was taking dexilant for about a month it didnt do much for me will be seeing my doctor thursday and try another PPI until something works. Good Luck and I hope it works for you.

Bill, Chicago is about 3-4 hours away. I'm assuming I would have to meet with him before he does anything so it would be at least 2 trips down.
