Has anyone tried the dexilant and what did you think of it? My dr said this pill will make the acid relfux go away and if it doesnt help, it means I dont have acid reflux but something else.

Hi purplemonkey,
I'm not familiar with it, but have heard others here who have been put on it. From what I hear, it's the gold standard right now. Protonix used to be, and now Dexilant seems to be the newest treatment.
I hope it helps!
I would expect someone with experience will be by to talk to you soon.
Take care,
Denise

I JUST got off the phone with my nurse because I was prescribed this also. It's actually Kapidex, they just changed the name.

Let me know how it works out for you. I didnt think the GERD could get worse but wow I was wrong. Going to have to suffer with the stomach pain ,vomiting, chest pain etc. And,all of this is causing my blood pressure to rise again its so scary especially when the anxiety pills dont seem to be helping anymore. The slightest movement and it seems to throw me off ,the only safe place for me is not moving at all at this point. Ive lost about
10 pds during the 2 weeks and on top of it all my breathing is acting up real bad again. I spend all day in discomfort and pain and when my family gets home I dont want them worrying or stressing about
this so I pretend Im feeling fine. Tomorrow they'll be running lot of blood work /test , 3 weeks the endoscopy and that feels like a long time from now. I forgot what its like to feel "normal" "healthy" but I know IF I would have taken better care of myself this would have never gotten this far. Its my own fault:( Im going to try the dexilant nothing to lose I guess ,I think Ive hit the point where PPI's arent working for me anymore but that be something if it DID? :D

My doctor ordered it but the pharmacy wouldn't even fill it because my Insurance apparently wanted to know WHY I NEEDED IT and they wanted more information! I could not believe it so now I am on Prevacid.

Purple Monkey I have used dexilant or kapidex what ever you want to call it. It works pretty good because it is time released. It comes in 60mg and 30mg capsules they will normally start you out on the 60mg first to repair the esophagus and then put you on the 30mg. It is pretty expensive but if you go to the website you can get a card and they will pay 55.00 of your prescript
ion and refills.

That sounds pretty rough. It won't hurt anything to try it. My insurance needs a preapproval which can take up to a month. You can ask your dr if you can get samples at least so you can start it. I have tried it in the past and it did nothing for me. I don't think it's right that your dr said if it doesn't work, it means you don't have reflux. Everyone is different medication wise. I've tried all the meds and none have helped longer than 3 weeks, then they seem to wear off.

Dexilant is another PPI. Just stopping acid doesn't necessarily stop reflux. There is no medication proven to stop reflux that I have heard of, and I've had it for over 30 years.
I ended up with a Nissen (actually a partial wrap called a Toupet) when my stomach was in my chest and the lower esophageal valve was stuck wide
open.
Before the wreck that pushed my stomach, my reflux was triggered by eating certain foods. I took plenty of PPIs, and all they did was to make my reflux "non-acid." From keeping a food log and noting when I had symptoms I found that I am sensitive to foods containing sulfites. I was able to control the refluxing by avoiding my food triggers/sensitivities/intolerances.
The point is acid is not necessarily the cause of reflux, stopping it will not necessarily cure it, and you can have reflux caused by something else.

My Dr called but left a message( I wasnt home was out getting 800 dollars worth of blood work done) told me to double dose on the anxiety pills and come in monday hes giving me something to knock off the anxiety an get rid of the discomfort (something real strong). At this point I dont care if Im walking around like a zombie. Good news the double dose has relieved some of my discomfort and Im hosting an evening dinner party and decorating the house. I havent felt this good in months , I have to be honest here though I dont want anyone to suffer :( but I like knowing there are people out there who totally get it. Thank You All:) Let you know how the dexilant works out ,Have a great day.
