Had my second RAF treatment for Barrets yesterday, Doc says he got it all and looks good. He did say the my hernia is bigger than original thought.......and that my esophagus is still red from the acid, even though I am taking 60 mg have Pepsid a day.
I have had 7 EGD since July 09 to date. The first one was done by a surgeon who said just a little redness in the stomach, nothing to worry about
. The second was by a local gastro who said there is a little Barrets, just come back once a year and we will keep an eye on it.
He also said you have a small hiatal hernia nothing that should cause any problems.
So we decided to go to the Mayo, and I am amazed at the different opinions that I got there. The first EGD, small hernia maybe 50mm in size, that was followed by a motility test, results were a slightly weak swallow, then a Bravo test with meds, acid was ok. even though I thought I wore the button for pain out....then another EGD with a gizmo that measured the cells in the Barrets which found pre cancerous cells, that worried me......Dr Fleischer, great doctor, tells me not too worry we can clean it up and yesterday they did.
But this time Doctor F. grilled me pretty good before going in, he asked me if I still having the same pain to which I replied, yes and he responded we are going to figure this out. So under I went and when I woke up, he said I have some answer for you. The hernia is bigger than what we thought (although he didn't say how big it was, or maybe I was just still in la-la land) any way he also said I found a couple of ulcer that are not helping either. I don't remember if he said they were in my esophagus or stomach....he is real good about
sending a written report and usually within a week. He is a good doctor. The best out of the 10 or 15 I have seen in the last 18 months....
Anyway I got a feeling WRAPture day is getting closer. I am spooked about
it, but feel I am going to the best place for it..
For anybody that is worried about
Barrets, go to the Mayo. I say that now and who now what I might be like in a couple of years. At the moment I feel good about
it. Barrets isn't really bad if doesn't progress. It is your body's way have a protecting itself. But...it needs to be checked. I am not a doctor in any way, I just ask a lot of questions, and hopefully my little bitty pea brain can throw out all the junk and keep the good info.
This site is good and scary, I have talked to people outside of this forum that I know and both of them encouraged me to get it done, both said within 4 weeks they were feeling better than ever and eating about
the same as they were prior to all the problems. They even took the spacers from under the front bed post.....the one who had his done 8 or 9 years ago said he eats anything he wants, actually to his bad, cause now he diabetic. That sucks. Any way enough. Thanks for letting me air my thoughts.
