Denise, everyone in the room probably looked down your throat. That's could also be the reason :))

The doctor gave me orthrotics and a pain relieving cream. The orthrotics felt real good. Gummy gel heel cups. I bounced all day with very little pain. :)

No kidding, Joy. That's what I figured. I knew I was in for trouble when they started swarming into the room. They took 10 extra biopsies, too. I agreed to be in an esophagus study, so they took the extra biopsies and a tube of blood from me. Do you think the biopsies are causing some of the problem? My wrap area is raw.

I have discovered that i have a kind of spasmy end of my swallow when it hits the resistance of the wrap. Now that it's hurting, I can feel the swallow all the way to the bottom, with the little double jump at the wrap site. Seriously, I can't wait to see what the surgeon has to say.

Glad you got orthotics and are feeling better. I know how crazy school is this time of year!

That could be the issue too. You tear 10 pieces of skin from one area it's bound to hurt.

It is a crazy time right now. My parapro is going to have a partial hysto over Christmas break and won't be back until our Valentine's party. I'll have a part-time para-pro during that time, but it's still undetermined how long she'll be in the room or when she'll be there. She the very "strict" one and I'm the more relaxed one. I'm trying to reverse the roles now to get the kids used to the transistion of roles. They're wondering why I've becomed so strict and she's becomed relaxed.

Aha! The good cop/bad cop routine! How lucky you could be the good cop. My TA was the good cop, and it took me some time to adjust when we started working together. It didn't seem fair that she could have that role. It worked out just fine, though, and she missed her calling. She could have been a great social worker or counselor. That helped out a lot, since I always had plenty of needy kids.
Hope things settle down soon and everyone adjusts. Have you ever just discussed it with the kids? I always found that they were receptive to explanations of "why".

I told them yesterday she would be out until mid-Feburary and not the reason why. They were worried about her being out, but seem to accept it better than I thought they would.
I've got alot of needy ones this year, too.

I was told to do the same thing Denise said with the frozen can. It actually works! I had a problem about a year after I started working for Oscar Mayer going up and down 7 flights of stairs all night long.

My GI doc said the lower end looked good yesterday, so it's back to the VA and back to the the drawing board to find out why I have such high inflammation markers. It's not Crohn's or Colitis he said. He did take biopsies just in case it's microscopic though. He still want's to do the EGD Monday though since I have added nausea as a new symptom the last 2 weeks or so. Glad I refilled the phenegren! Perfect timing .... Michelle and mom are getting ready to start baking and I hate to eat!

How's everyone coming along with decorating and such? We put our tree up Thursday and Michelle went nuts as usual with all her decorations in the house. Snowmen and things everywhere.

Hey All,  Here I am in the middle of the BIG blizzard - 14 inches of snow with wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour.  It is still snowing but we are sending to toward the great lakes region so I hope Janice is all stocked up idea .

I am sorry to hear of everyone's problems and I am doing pretty good right now.  Started a new med back a bit and yesterday I doubled the dose.  A few side effects but working well so I will just get through the side effects and keep on moving on. 

Sounds like everyone is getting ready for the holidays.  I have been out shopping with my daughter and had a great time.  I have over spent a bit this year but I have not done that in a long time so this year I just had the urge.

My brother's a city bus driver in Ames, Iowa and he told me it's beginning to get rough there.
Stay warm all my northern friends. They say flurries maybe tomorrow and Monday for us. Definitely rain is coming with lots of wind.

Nice to hear from you. Hope you figure out what's going on with your poor body, and start feeling like your old self. It sounds like your house is all decorated for the holidays. We got ours decorated the weekend after Thanksgiving. I love to get things up so I can enjoy them. I'm like a kid that way. Fortunately, I also love snow, so I'm happy when it's white outside. It's just so pretty. I'd much rather have the dry cold and snow over rain in the winter.

Hey, I wanted to tell you that my TA (the good cop) had to take on my bad cop role when I was out for surgery (2 foot surgeries and the Nissen), and she said she understood what I went through and why we needed one bad cop in the group! (Not in those words, but you get the picture)

Thanks for your good wishes. We're fortunate to have a warm and cozy home so we can stay out of the cold weather. We moved from one snow belt to another, but today we went back to our old stomping grounds and they had double the snow we have (and we had quite a bit).
I hope you and your class have fun together, and you have a great holiday with your family!

Thanks for the snow warning! According to forecasts, tomorrow night is the transition--rain to snow, then we're in for some major snow. We're right on Lake Ontario, and east of Lake Erie, so watch out!

I'm glad you're getting some relief from your meds, and I hope the side effects subside quickly. I'm glad you had a productive shopping trip and had fun splurging a bit! Are you ready for the holiday? I've got to get baking cookies. I've made butter crunch toffee, and "White Trash" (wheat, rice, corn chex, cheerios, pretzels, peanuts, coated with white chocolate) but I keep giving it away! I've got to get baking, though. I'm having fun cooking and baking now that I'm retired. What a difference!

Well, we ended up with 17 inches of snow and high winds last night,  today in the deep freeze.  I suspect you get the lake effect so hunger down if the storm comes your way.

The medicine kicks butt right about now so I just go and plop on my couch with my dog at my side ( one the floor)  and read my book.

I wrapped presents last evening and listened to that wind howl.  cookies - used to make 14 kinds of cookies and bars when kids were all at home but now I just bake some breads and pumpkin pies. 

Thanks for all you have done this year in supporting and caring for the members of this great forum.  You are appreciated. 

Bill, It was good to hear from you and you are soundling beter.  :) It feels to me like you are adjusting well to the move even though is must have been tough on everyone in the family. I know I am much older then you and we are fortunate to have our house paid for so there is some security in that.  Wishing you a very special holiday season and make sure to keep those Doctor appointments.

Joy,  I hope things are going a bit better for you and I have to tell you that you continue to post to so many members sharing your experiences and knowledge even though you are going through some bumps in the road. I admire your fortitude.

Barb,   I do envy your big family and the closeness you share.  It must feel good to know you are loved by so many.  Enjoy the holiday moments and memories you will be making this year.  Did you get any of the heavy snow - I think it went south of you and more through the southern part of the state.

Mitsie,  I am hoping you are recovering well and try not to over-think your recovery.  It takes time and keep on posting as the members here are so wise and share so much that is helpful.  It is great to have so many that can identify with what you are going through.

Hi all-
We missed the snow. Only got an inch or so, but had a lot of rain yesterday which turned to ice and now dealing with the 30 plus mph winds and dropping temps. Gonna stay inside and watch comedy ALL DAY LONG!!! Poor Michelle had to get up and leave for work at 4am this morning. I was surprised I didn't wake up and find her still in bed. LOL!

Bill, good idea to stay in and relax on a day like that.
I'm awaiting the report on my testing when I meet with my surgeon on Friday. The strangest thing is that when I did my 24hr PH monitor, I didn't experience a moment of heartburn. I really expected some, but as far as I could sense, none came. Now that doesn't mean I didn't get a spray or two I didn't notice, as I was dealing with terrible spasms with the wired monitor. That never happened before, and as Joy suggested, it might have been from the additional 10 biopsies they took (on top of whatever my surgeon took) because I "volunteered" for an endoscopy research study. Wow. It was NOT fun. Now I understand what people go through when they have esophageal spasms.

I did find out that I have a little funny swallow where my esophagus meets my wrap. I'm sure it's from the resistance at that point created by the wrap. When my esophagus was irritated (especially when I still had the wire in) I could feel the little (what felt like) double swallow at the end.

Before the testing, I was expecting that I would be scheduling a redo, but I'm not so sure now. I wish I had an earlier appointment with my surgeon, but I'll just have to wait to find out what he discovered. I'll let you know what he says.

Well, I'm sitting here bundled under my snuggie this evening. I'm cozy warm right now except for my hands. I went and bought a special night splint for my foot to speed up the healing process. Everything I've read and heard from some people I know said I need one of them. It puts my foot in the flexed position all night so when I climb out of bed I don't do a re-injury to the tendon as it stretches again.

My stomach has been a little irritated lately. I'm wondering if it's a leftover side effect from the stomach virus I had last week. It feels bloated after breakfast every morning. After I eat a banana it seems to calm down.

Warning..read with caution...good news follows!

Hello all. Snow continues here, we had a brief respite from the snow, in the form of sleet and freezing rain. So now the roads are like ice rinks with 40 mph winds..and yes, we'll all drive to work tomorrow...such is the life living in the north.

I am AMAZINGLY, better. After two years of tests, biopsies, meds and diets, my family Dr. said enough, and put me on vancomycin. He suspects a drug resistant something and decided to have me skip the gastro's advice and treatments and here I am, 1 week into treatment...and no more constant diarrhea, pain, etc. For cryin' out loud..two years and all of that. He said, vancomycin is a last resort drug, because of it's potency and it is still effective for drug resistant bacteria and let's just try it. I love that man!!! I still have the esophageal spasms, but I'm on Klonopin (even though it is addictive) for sleep and it helps with the spasms. They're not nearly has violent and painful, but there has been progress on that front.

Headaches!! Another new med; a new seizure med..Vintap? I feel like a new woman; still having headaches, but down to 1 to 3 a day or maybe just one 6 or 8 hour headache. The relief is amazing...and...knock on formica...I'm not reacting to it..that's right folks, no side effects (yet) Holy Christmas!!

The rest of my body still feels like a 110 year old, but that is all structural (spine, shoulder, knees) and I think we can deal with that... I'm still facing the reconstruction hurdle in February maybe, but oh my goodness, I cannot believe the way I feel.

I can only pray that you all find some modicum of progress that I have in the last few weeks.

So, a note to tell you that I'm thinking of all of you, I'm working like a crazy lady, retiring in 3 weeks, and giving joyous blessings for this, even though...as we all know...this may be temporary, I'm rejoicing for this temporary!

Glad to hear you all did not get the 17 inches that we got of that nice white stuff.  OUr dome collapsed on the Metro Dome so the Vikings are looking for some place else to play the Giants this week.  Yowser.

Janice,  Great news and only 3 weeks left until the big day.  I know yo love your job however with less stress you will feel even better.  2 years was way to long for you to go through so much pain and testing. 

Busy day today so I will be back around dinner time.

We're bracing for a big multi day storm as well. The last one dropped about a foot, then we had a respite and a couple days of warm weather, so a lot melted. Now they're predicting at least another 12-16 inches today, tomorrow, and Wednesday. I'm a snow lover, but it does make it hard to get around. The weatherman said we're pretty much guaranteed a white Christmas, which is nice. I guess the pattern continues into next week.

I saw the video of the Metro Dome. We were from the Syracuse area, and SU has offered to send some fabric to help repair the damage. They have a dome of their own, so they understand the problem.

Denise, just dealing with severe dry skin issues due to my medication. As a last resort am trying selsum blue medicated shampoo on hands for ten minutes. It did seem to help until I went in chlorinated water of the whirlpool. So tried another dose of it on my hands and then thick lotion and gloves for the night. My knees are still doing really good from the shots. Wish my back, shoulders hands and feet were doing that well. See the pain doc tomorrow will see what he has to say about it all and what the next plan of action is.

Kitt, sadly the snow did not miss us. I barely made it into work and then came to a street that had waist high snow plowed into the end of it so couldn't get to my drive way. After wading through the snow I just wanted to go to bed but when husband called the police to tell them I had no where to park they said my car had already been called in and it would be towed. I had to wade back through the snow and sit in the car until the plow came through. Of course I couldn't get into the drive way any way after the plow went by and deposited a ton of snow. We got 10 inches of snow. I think my grandson will have plenty of snow to sled on and Bella will have plenty to build her snow man. We'll have to keep an eye on the youngest. He has been deemed the fastest crawler the specialist has ever seen. He doesn't care about walking because he can get what he wants by crawling.

Bill hope they find some things to help you out with all your problems. I'd rather have snow than the stuff you got down there. I hope the weather is good on the 18th for our drive to Indianapolis to get Bella.

How good to hear from you. Your grandchildren will love the snow for sure. We've got a pretty big storm here right now, but schools in our immediate area aren't closed. Hey, but I'm glad, because that means my son is in school and I get to babysit our sweet little grandchild while his mother goes to get her hair done. When she comes back, she's staying for dinner and we're going to watch "It's a Wonderful Life" (a holiday tradition for us). My son is a JV basketball coach, and he has a game, if they allow after school activities with the snow the way it is. We live in an area that is used to snow, so it takes a lot to stop things. Last Tuesday when I went to get my tests (manometry, EGD, and PH monitor) it took us two hours to drive there when it usually takes 20 minutes. Yikes!

My dermatologist told me to use Vaseline on my hands. This is how he said to do it:
Take a small amount and warm it in your palm. Then rub it all over hour hands. Next, run lukewarm water, and rub your hands together under it (as if you're washing them). The warm water helps to spread the Vaseline evenly. Pat your hands dry, and you're good to go. He likes to put it on at least twice a day. You could give it a try. My hands extremely dry in winter. They even split and bleed. Vaseline is a good moisture protector.

Hope you get that driveway cleared out. At our last house we had a driveway that was 275 feet long. When it snowed a lot (two or three feet) we had to get a payloader in to clear it.

it seems like maybe my burning might be a little better today.   Unless its wishful thinking LOL.    Maybe should do that more often maybe it will work.

We have snow here too (PA) but not that much.   Its very cold to brr I dislike winter

Good Evening All,

Denise,  My dermatologist says I have extremely dry skin - now that cost me a few hundred dollars to find out - smhair    She prescribed Desoximetasone 0.05 %,  it has petrolatum, mineral oil plus other ingredients and I see it is manufactured in Canada.  It was RX med.  Also she told me to put on hand cream 5-6 times daily.  So now I spend all day applying creams - turn

To all, I took my daughter to dermatologist as she has a small area on her left cheek and one bigger one on her chest.  Dr. did biopsy both areas which surprised me and also made me feel bad as she seems to inherit " junk" from me.  She faints easily so I go with her as I can speak up and tell the Drs. of her fainting spells and once she had a seizure from fainting.  I am praying the biospies will be negative and she can go back and have  Cryotherapy for skin lesions.

Sorry to hear some of you are getting nasty weather.  I finally bought winter boots for the deep snow.   Have not needed any for years but I guess this year we are going to get dumped on. 

Denise, Thanks for the offer to help with the dome.  I am glad nobody was hurt when it collapsed. 

I am really getting in the spirit of Christmas.  I love to give and to wrap packages.

Kitt, on my way home from the pain doctor today my car engine light came on and the engine sounded funny so I guess we won't be driving the car that we just put hundreds of dollars into. Guess we'll have to take out the credit card and get a rental to go get my granddaughter. I will not disapoint her again or myself for that matter. Things did not go any better at the pain docs either. He doesn't want to do any more injections at this point in my back and he told me to keep taking the muscle relaxor when I need them. He suggested the chiropractor also but my insurance doesn't pay for that and I don't have the money right now. He also wants me to go to the neurologist because of my hands shaking and dropping things.

Denise, You are so lucky to be so close to your grand daughter. It seems the world is against us seeing ours. One way or another I am going to get her here. We have plans and lots of fun stuff to do. I'll have to try the vaseline thing on my hands. The shampoo seems to heal it up over night.

Joy I hate the way they were treating me. It is unrealistic to expect someone to have their car off the street when they can't get to the drive way.

I am sorry to hear of your car problems.  We have rented cars to go on road trips in the past as we did not have a car that we trusted to go the distance and not break down.  Now we have a good car and my hubby doesn't do well on long distance trips as when he sits to long his Crohn's kicks in.  He also hates to fly.

I agree with you, rent something and go to get your Granddaughter.  I would let you take my car in a New York minute as it is leased and I am never going to use up the miles I have coming before April 1st. Only has about 13,000 miles and I had 30,500 miles I could have used.  We will be buying a new vehicle this spring.

Well more snow today but not like the week-end storm.  Just nuisance snow fall = 2- 4 inches.
