hi guys

im new to this site can anyone tell me if they get a lot of Flem lots of coughing throat clearing  and i feel i have something stuck in my throat like im wearing a tight shirt collar . last yr i had a a sore throat for six weeks so doc sent me to ent they did lots of test and said i had acid reflux my voice box was all burnt etc and i had inflammation so they took a biopsy and said all was ok no cancer thank god . but my symptoms are getting worse i have now been put on esker prazole 20mg 1a day does any one else get this

I was like that before my surgery.
If the medicine doesn't help ask for stronger dose.
It would also be a good idea to see a GI and have some tests to make sure which kind of reflux is happening.
Some good tests are: barium swallow, EGD, pH test, and motility study.

pigeonman, welcome to HealingWell.  Joy has answered your question well and I agree with her.  A GI specialist should be in your future.

just a quick one guys im on nexum is their a stronger med my doc said i was on the best one . and what does gi mean

GI means Gastro Intestinal also known as Gastroenterologist who specializes in intestinal problems. Sometimes we all use abbreviations and forget that not everyone knows what they mean. Especially for those of us who have been living with our diseases for a gazillion years!

I'm on Nexium 40mg 2xday. I've tried all the others and it's the only one that works for me. But not all acid reflux medicines are the same. If Nexium isn't helping, ask your doctor to try another one. And if you aren't seeing a specialist for this problem, I highly recommend you do. Most general practice, family, or even internists can't care for this kind of problem on their own. Ask to see a Gastroenterologist.

Hi guys,
Did you have this feeling something stuck in you're throte constantley from when I get up in a morning to when I go to bed! Getting a bit worried now my docs has upped my dose to 40mg of nexium and said there is nothing else he can do apart from refre me to ent!

Don't go to the ENT. All he treats is the throat. He doesn't treat the cause of the throat issue- acid reflux. You really need to see a Gastroenterologist.
I was on 80mg of nexium plus 300mg of zantac a day. When they stopped working I had the surgery.

Hey Couch, what were your symptoms that made you need to go to surgery and when you were on that 80mg/300mg of zantac, how exactly did you know those symptoms were coming back? Was it a gradual thing or more of an overnight thing?


Also, how are the symptoms now that you've had the surgery and how long ago was it?

I had very atypical symptoms: chronic coughing, gunk in the throat, sinus infections, lung infections, ear infections, pneumonia, dental problems (from acid decaying it), loss of voice (sometimes for weeks), asthma attacks, almost blacking out, and occasional heartburn.

The mega doses happened over time. I started out with tums, then 40mg nexium at supper time, then 40 mg added in the morning, and then 300mg zantac at bedtime. After three years of that dose it stopped working.
After surgery I have to take an occasional tums, maybe two a week. It's been 14 months for me today.
