Hello, I've just joined. I've had reflux for years, but really badly for the last four years. I've been on PPIs on and off, but suffer from side effects. Also the PPIs stop the heartburn, but because of the bloatedness the PPIs then give me LPR. I stop taking the PPIs to relieve the LPR but then get heartburn again. I take ranitidine in between and drink gaviscon. I had surgery two years ago and I a test I had done in January showed the wrap is still intact. I still suffer though. I've virutally stopped all alcohol, just the very occasional gin and tonic, I've lost 30lbs, I sleep with my bed head elevated, I eat smaller meals yet still I suffer. I feel very down today. cry cry cry

Your wrap might be too tight. Have you discussed this with a different GI?

What is your rationale for saying it might be too tight? I'd be really interested to know. I can belch easily and I can feel the reflux coming up.

Now that you've added belching easy and feeling the reflux it's probably loosen some.
When I read your first description it sounded like too tight symptoms. But you added the other and it sounds too loose.

If I understand you correctly you had the surgery 2 years ago, but nothing changed? You're the same as you were before the surgery? This shouldn't be. The surgeon who did you did wrong. He bumbled!

I'd still go see a different GI who's experienced in re-dos and see if it needs adjusting.

I'm in the UK. My doc is the best around here. It's not easy under the NHS to see someone else. I'm seeing him again next Monday so I'll discuss my options.

What was the test that showed the wrap intact? Barium swallow is the best. It would also show if you are having reflux.

First welcome to the forum and our "wrapped club".
I agree with Alcie. Seems some Doctors say a wrap is intact by EGD and that's all you get, when the barium swallow shows SO much more information. Also an easier test for us to go through, in my opinion. I will be having one Monday sometime to see if the perferation caused by a GI doctor is healed and I can leave this dang hospital. Anyhow.....I had to have a redo after Just shy of 3 years, but was complaining of symptoms for over 2 years. Mine, unfortunately was done wrong and hence the redo. But it took me complaining to several different GI Drs. and lastly ended up a specialist in redos, after 4 months of him not knowing what was wrong, decided to do exploratory surgery and thanked me and my wife many times afterwards for pushing him into it. Mine was done wrong from day one.
Your story sounds so familiar to me. I would push for more testing. You may wish to seek out second opinions. Just because someone is usually very good at this, they are still human. Please remember they are HIRED by you to perform their job. You don,t have to go back to them. And I wouldn't if they refuse to get to the bottom of things. You can do a back search of a thread that pretty much gives day to day on my redo and complications. I forget the name of it, something to the effect off where in the world is Bill, I think. Maybe Denise or kitt will chime in and remember.

I had a manometry test. You could see on the computer screen what was happening when I swallowed. I had to swallow water and then eat a pasty. The doc was confident that my wrap was intact.
